I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD (Psalm 27:13-14).
In this journey of life, we face many trials. Sometimes, we may hear His voice bidding us to go out into the unknown; trusting Him for the answer. Or we may face some trial. The future appears uncertain as we search for a pathway; not just any pathway, His. Yet, we don’t even know where the next step is. We read His Word, we pray, and we wait for a miracle or a light to illuminate our path. Our future lies in His hands; yet, even knowing that we find it hard to wait.
In our humanity, we want to see the answer, the finish line. Often, we don’t even know what we should pray for; but, this Christian journey is one of surrender. By faith, we trust in that which we cannot see. Knowing that even when we don’t know what to ask for, the Holy Spirit does. “Likewise, the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Romans 8:26).
The Source of Our Anxiety While We Wait
Sometimes the anxiety we feel while we wait, comes from our own inner turmoil. We know that God is good. Furthermore, we know that He is Omnipotent and Almighty. Yet, when we get to the heart of the issue; we know the depth of our own worthiness. Rather than doubting His power or His plan, we doubt His willingness to save us from our own failures. We know that in Christ, we are declared righteous; but, we don’t feel very righteous. Over and over again, those voices whisper within our heads the reasons for rejection. But, for all those who have accepted Christ as their Savior; those are Satan’s lies whispering in our heads. Our salvation never depended on us; neither does our sanctification.
“We through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith” (Galatians 5:5). “For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. (Romans 8 24-25). Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps (Psalm 85:13). The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand (Psalm 37:23-24). Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place (2 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV).
If this is true of our Salvation (the greatest miracle of all); then, it must be true of every aspect of our life’s journey as well.
Four Things to Do While You Wait
Worship Him for all that He has already done. Take the time to praise Him for who He is. Let songs of praise surround you, filling your heart and mind with Him. Study His word. Memorize verses so you can respond when Satan whispers His lies. Fill your heart and mind with Him.
Anticipate a miracle. Anticipation transforms our waiting into an experience of wonder and awe. Knowing that God IS Omnipotent, Almighty, filled with Mercy, Grace and Love for His children; we can awaken each morning with hope. Watching to see today’s miracles, helps us to wait for tomorrows.
In Christ Abide, every moment of every day. He is the source of our strength, the living sap that fills us. Never forget that in Christ, you are God’s Blessed, Chosen, Redeemed, Beloved Child; heir of His Kingdom, Mighty Warrior, Gifted for Ministry and a Servant by Choice.
Trust in God. With the same power that He raised Jesus from the dead, He will empower you into new life in Him. He loved you so much that even in the darkest depth of your sin, Jesus came to pay the price for your sins. Since He did that, why would you ever doubt His willingness to do all that is best in your life today?
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 41:31).
