Learning of Love
Love can be such a mystery. It can raise our hearts up to the highest peaks of joy and hope. Miraculously it can give us strength to keep going through the toughest of circumstances. Yet, at the same time, it can bring us the greatest pain and sorrow. However, of all the emotions we face as humans, love can be the most difficult to fully understand. For me, it is love that most points to the truth of Gods existence. It cannot be explained by the evolutionist. Love is the greatest gift God gave His creation. Yet, it is the area of greatest brokenness in this fallen world. I John 4:8 tells us, He that loveth not knoweth not God, for God is Love.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life John 3:16.
We are born with a need for love, as well as a desire to love and be loved. Often it drives us, pushes us, and even breaks us. Yet, do we really understand love?
In Search of Love
On February 15, 2016, I began a series on my blog site entitled In Search of Love. Throughout that series, I, with great vulnerability, told you of the story of my life. Therein, I told you of all the good, the bad, the ugly and the beauty discovered in my search for true love.
In John 17, Jesus prayed to God, the Father. As I wrote in Abiding, Steadfast Joy, within this prayer of Jesus we come to realize the purpose for which God created us. Therein, we discover that first and foremost, it was His overwhelming love that caused Him to create us. The love between the Father and Son so great, as the Son being the perfect echo of the Father. Both being one in perfect righteousness, holiness, and sovereignty. The Holy Spirit, also being God is the outpouring of that love. Our highest point of elation in love is only minuscule in comparison to the love embodied withing the Triune God. That love was so great that it could not be contained; but, rather overflowed.
Therefore, God created us that His overflowing love might have a vessel to pour forth upon. In other words, He created us to experience and be filled with the Joy of His love.
To fully experience that depth of love meant we would not only be recipients of His love; but, also we might know the joy of loving Him. However, we could not know that kind of love toward Him, if we were not given the freedom to love. Without being given the choice to love Him, we could never know the truth and depth of love.
Loved as the Son is Loved-God’s Gift
Furthermore, as Jesus spoke to the Father in John 17:22-23, He said, “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast love me.”
Did you get that? God has loved me and you with the same depth of love that He loved His Son. How can that be? Still, there it is! So, let me ask you. Are you in search of love? Jesus Christ is standing there with open arms to embrace you and to fill you with a love beyond measure.
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Ephesians 3:14-19
