Before creation, God determined that He would create man and woman in His image. They were to be a people on whom He could shower His love, fill with His Joy and allow to marvelously experience His Glory. Then why did He allow the fall? Perhaps it is as C.S. Lewis declared—free will was necessary for one to fully experience this love-for to be incapable of choosing to love, is no real love. Or perhaps it is as Jonathan Edwards has said, for us to fully savor and rejoice in God in all we Glory, we must first see Him in all His Glory. How can I know of His Grace or of His Justice if I never saw anything else? Can I know the beauty of light, if I had never experienced darkness? From before time began, God’s plan did include the True Prophet-His Word made flesh.
It is not necessary for me to fully grasp all there is to know of God’s plan in order to embrace the beauty of His Grace or His Love. As He declared in Isaiah 55: 8-9 “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Still I can trust Him with every detail of my life, for His Word is true. God told Adam of the redemptive plan very shortly after Adam chose to sin. Then throughout the history of time, God revealed His plan of salvation to men who failed even to heed His Plea. For he knows how weak we are;
He remembers we are only dust. (Psalm 103:14 NLT)
The Prophet Foretold In Deuteronomy
15 The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; According to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. And the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.
18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
The Final Prophet
God did send many prophets over the years to the nation of Israel and the world; however, the final Prophet sent by God was God Himself—in the flesh, Jesus Christ. For Jesus Christ, God’s only son, is both distinct in person; yet, one with God. That is: there is one God who eternally exists as three distinct Persons — the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We were made in that same image, body, soul and spirit to help us understand; although, again we may not ever fully understand.
All the prophets sent before Jesus foretold of His coming with absolute accuracy. It was impossible for so many prophets over so many years with so many pieces to fit together to be fulfilled in one person except that it was true.
Jesus was the final and the Ultimate Prophet sent by God to the human race. Although, John wrote Revelations and some would say he was the last prophet; however, he confirmed it was Jesus, Alone.
THE Revelation of Jesus Christ
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must [a]shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw. (Revelations 1:1-2).
You, see, we cannot look upon God the Father without the mediator. That mediator, the final prophet is Jesus Christ. None other beyond Him, for all the prophets were foretelling of Him.
The people were frightened when they saw the fire and glory of God displayed on the mountain while Moses was in His presence. We cannot look upon God without falling in sorrow filled fear, realizing our utter lack of righteousness. Our sin becomes so apparent, we would die of despair were it not for His Grace, displayed to us through Jesus Christ. For He took upon Himself the punishment for our sin. He died on the cross; but before He did—there was a span of time (4 hours) in which God poured forth on Him all the wrath and anger our sin demanded for justice to stand. Then, for all who believe and accept Him as Lord and Savior, He clothes us with His righteousness.
When God looks down upon us, His redeemed, He no longer sees our sin. He sees the blood of Jesus Christ that covers us completely. For that reason we can rest in His love, be overwhelmed by His joy, and be amazed by His Glory.
