Being Rooted and Grounded in The Magnitude of God's Love ⋆ Effie Darlene Barba

I am fully convinced that if we ever fully grasped the magnitude of God’s love for each of us, we would never worry, doubt, fret, experience fear, or even know sorrow. Imagine this, the God who created all the heavens and earth and who reigns Sovereign over all His creation, loves you and wants to shower you with His love, His joy, and His glory. He who knows all things, is working together everything, so that your heart can experience the maximum of joy for all of eternity with Him. Every minuscule detail of your life, He has been there. Each tear, He has earnestly longed to wipe away, desiring that you know that even the tears came because He loved you. Wrapped within each tear came a lesson in truth that drew your heart closer to His Heart, wherein you were rooted and grounded in His love.

Oh, yes; I am convinced that if I ever fully grasped the magnitude of God’s love for me, I would soar above the trials and worries of this life. A peaceful smile of delight and joy would cover my face. Strength would emerge to claim victory over every task I face. Wisdom would guide every choice I make, as I fully rely upon His word. Resting and abiding in Jesus Christ, I would allow the power of the Holy Spirit to perform His work in and through me. If only I fully understood the magnitude of God’s love for me: the breadth, the length, the depth, and the heighth thereof. What could I ever fear?

The problem is and has always been, this human heart of mine does not invariably grasp the magnitude of His love for me. At times, I forget, doubt, or underestimate His love.

Rooted and Grounded in His Love

Paul’s prayer was that believer’s know the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Jesus Christ died that we might be redeemed. Therefore, the same power that raised Him from the dead indwells each and every believer who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Thereby, we are to be rooted and grounded in the magnitude of God’s love toward us. What could that mean?

First, to be rooted in His love refers to where we get the source of our nourishment. Just as the Bible tells us that we are the branches; but, He is the vine. We are to abide in Him. But, how does a tree or vine gain strong roots? Those trees with the strongest and deepest roots have faced moments of drought forcing it to dig deeper. Or it may have faced extreme storms with gale force winds that forces the roots to dig deeper into the soil. Moments of drought and storms enter our lives that our roots may dig deeper into the source of our strength, Jesus Christ and His love for us.

Grounded refers to our foundation. Where is your foundation? Is it built upon the truth of God’s word or upon the words of men? If we build upon a foundation of human thoughts and ideas, our house will crumble when winds blow. Our foundation of love cannot be based on human philosophy and feel good ideas of self-exalting men and women. If love is to stand, it must be built upon God’s word. His word is true. I cannot understand or begin to grasp the magnitude of God’s love for me, if I never read His word.

The Magnitude of God’s Love on Display

Read God’s Word. Because, from Genesis to Revelation, the magnitude of God’s love is on display. Within each story, look for it. God’s Love and Grace sustained humanity; despite, their foolishness, pride and sin. Certainly, His Righteousness and Justice would demand payment for sin. Yet, He willingly even paid the price that all who would accept His gift of salvation, by faith would be saved. Even His most faithful of servants failed at times. But God always remained faithful, fulfilling His promise to them. He showed His mercy, grace, and love.

The magnitude of God’s love forgave sin. Furthermore His love was displayed as He guided each life into a deeper knowledge of His love. He transformed each willing heart. Additionally, He transformed their life until it became rooted and grounded in His love. Furthermore, as their reliance on Him grew, their faith grew. They became strengthened by the Holy Spirit to do great and mighty things.

As you study the Word of God, you will discover that for each faithful servant, God was willing to use a lifetime of trials to teach them of the magnitude of God’s love for them; because, He loved them. Furthermore, you will discover that each grew in strength, joy, hope and faith. Therefore, I must say, I have been so blessed to have faced all that I have. Also, Mom would tell you the same. Just to know Him and the power of His word has been worth everything. Whatever it takes just to know the magnitude of God’s love toward me, and the power of His might within me: because He is the greatest treasure. Oh, I am not fully changed, yet. However, I am being transformed day by day through the work of the Holy Spirit.
