A Poem of Reflection for Palm Sunday: Trust in You

Trust in You

Throughout the current series, Finding Faith on the Road to Emmaus, we have been looking at how remarkably Jesus Christ fulfilled the Old Testament Prophecies of Himself.  This week we will move forward into the events leading up to the cross, including how precisely Palm Sunday’s events were foretold. God truly is Sovereign over every detail of History!  But for today, I want us to reflect upon His Trustworthiness.  Yesterday, I wrote this poem “Trust In You” as I reflected upon the faith demonstrated by the Syrophoenician Woman and of the man who cried out, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24).

How often have I stood with an anxious heart or found myself either doubting His Power to overcome, wondering if my faith were all in vain?

But far more often, rather than questioning if God can perform a miracle for me, my question becomes will He.  After all with my failures, why should He?  But you see, He knew me before I was ever conceived or born.  He knew every time I would fall down, every dark crevice of my heart.  Despite His knowing me inside out, He willingly went to the cross to take my place.  He reached out to me in gracious love to save me, with all my blemishes.  Therefore, I can trust Him with every detail of my life.

Trust in You

by Effie Darlene Barba

It is so easy to trust in You

When all is well, and skies are blue

Yet, when the storms of life they rage

It’s hard my faith to then engage

The Wonders of the world around

So, filled with life and vibrant sound

The horses on the hills beyond

Or cattle lowing near the pond

How could I ever doubt your strength?

While you display the breadth and length

Of all Your Glory shining bright

Touching our world with rays of light

And if I do not doubt Your might,

How can my heart know such fright?

Unless it be, I doubt Your Grace

Toward me a sinner so debase

And yet, you died on Calvary

That I from sin might be set free

From all its shame and penalty

That from its chains, have victory

Not free because of what I’ve done

But all because of Your dear Son

Who paid my price, and clothed me then

His Righteous Robes that hide my sin

From all the wrath I justly deserve

My Spirit, Lord, you hold, preserve

To ever in Your presence Be

Filled with Your Love and Joyous Glee

With all you’ve done and shown to me

How can my faith so quickly flee,

Diminishing Salvation’s worth

When faced with sorrows here on earth

Instead, dear Lord, whate’er it takes

Though valleys dark, or great heart breaks

Teach me to keep my eyes on You

Give me a faith that’s always true

Teach me Lord, to trust in you

Not only when the skies are blue

But when the storms of life do rage

Help me to then my faith engage
