I trust in my beloved. He loves me with His perfect love, protecting and hiding me in the cleft of the rock. His banner of love covers me, protecting me from the little foxes that wish to destroy the fruit of His vine. Let me seek Him like a lovesick bride for her groom. Praying, calling forth His name, for He finds my voice sweet to His ears. The king of kings wants to hear me call to Him, imagine that. So why would I worry or fret?
So, as we read chapter two of the song of songs, imagine yourself as the Shulamite and Jesus the Beloved. For He truly is the Beloved and I pray that you too will come to trust in my Beloved. He loves you and calls to you to be His.
The Beloved
2 I am the rose of Sharon,
And the lily of the valleys.
2 Like a lily among thorns,
So is my love among the daughters.
What a wondrous thought, the rose of Sharon, THE lily of all lilies has called me out as a lily among the thorns. Though I am so unworthy; yet, He makes me His lily. Transforming my heart each day into the beautiful lily He sees me to be in Him.
The Shulamite
3 Like an apple tree among the trees of the woods,
So is my beloved among the sons.
I sat down in his shade with great delight,
And his fruit was sweet to my taste.
Oh, that I might delight in Him each day. I long to sit down in his shade and feed upon His words of grace.
The Shulamite to the Daughters of Jerusalem
4 He brought me to the [a]banqueting house,
And his banner over me was love.
5 Sustain me with cakes of raisins,
Refresh me with apples,
For I am lovesick.
6 His left hand is under my head,
And his right hand embraces me.
7 I [b]charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
By the gazelles or by the does of the field,
Do not stir up nor awaken love
Until it pleases.
His banner of protection and righteousness are over me. I am covered by His love. He is all that I need to be filled with love, joy, and hope. Oh, that I might long for Him as a lovesick bride whenever I am separated from Him.
The Beloved’s Request
The Shulamite
8 The voice of my beloved!
Behold, he comes
Leaping upon the mountains,
Skipping upon the hills.
9 My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag.
Behold, he stands behind our wall;
He is looking through the windows,
Gazing through the lattice.
10 My beloved spoke, and said to me:
“Rise up, my love, my fair one,
And come away.
11 For lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone.
12 The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of singing has come,
And the voice of the turtledove
Is heard in our land.
13 The fig tree puts forth her green figs,
And the vines with the tender grapes
Give a good smell.
Rise up, my love, my fair one,
And come away!
14 “O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
In the secret places of the cliff,
Let me see your [c]face,
Let me hear your voice;
For your voice is sweet,
And your face is lovely.”
My voice is sweet to His ears as He protects me in the clefts of the rock. That I might draw away and spend each moment I can in His presence.
Her Brothers
15 Catch us the foxes,
The little foxes that spoil the vines,
For our vines have tender grapes.
Let not the foxes steal my fruit. I must tend to my vineyards, abiding in the vine. For He is the vine and I a branch. Let me not be drawn aside to chase after the foxes of sin.
The Shulamite
16 My beloved is mine, and I am his.
He feeds his flock among the lilies.
(To Her Beloved)—I trust in my Beloved
17 Until the day breaks
And the shadows flee away,
Turn, my beloved,
And be like a gazelle
Or a young stag
Upon the mountains of [d]Bether.
My Beloved is mine, and I am His. Until the day breaks and the shadows flee away…I will wait for Him. I trust in my Beloved
