The Most Powerful Word of All

Fountains of Wisdom-A Study in Proverbs (Part 33)-The Most Powerful Word of All

Throughout the book of Proverbs, Solomon keeps returning to the importance of words.  Words that give life and words that destroy are placed on display in almost every chapter.  Proverbs 18 is filled with admonitions concerning man’s tongue and speech.    Fools delight in hearing their own voices (verse 2); yet, ultimately their words and self absorption become the very snare of their eternal destruction (verse 7).  All of man’s wisdom and seeking understanding leads to eternal hell as he rejects the one truth of God’s Sovereignty, Righteousness, and Mercy.  Such fools are so caught within their own pride that they can never realize that they will be destroyed (verse 12).

Words can bring life or they can bring destruction. They can be like torrential floods that destroy all in their path or like the bubbling gentle brooks that bring life

(verse 21 and verse 4).  They can stir up strife and contention (verses 3 and 6) or they can build up powerful friendships (verse 24).  Indeed, wise words may even be the thing that leads to finding a virtuous spouse (verse 22).  Too often we can bring our own arguments before the courts to prove that we are right until the cross examination of our hearts finds us guilty as charged (verse 17).  Too often we join a cause and speak boldly before we even know the truth of the issue (verse 13) or run about as gossips causing great harm that cuts deep within the innermost parts of another’s spirit (verse 8).

There is one word that brings life, hope, power, and joy to the soul.  That word is

the name of our Lord, Jesus.  Proverbs 18:” 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”  In His name we are protected from evil, lifted high above the powers of sin and destruction.  In the name of Jesus our spirits are lifted high so that we are able to bear with any and all infirmities or trials we must face along this pilgrimage journey.

John 1: (KJV) “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ..14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth… of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace.17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” The words of God spoken through the law were fulfilled by the WORD OF GOD (Jesus Christ).  Jesus Christ who is perfect righteousness fulfilled the letter of the law as well as the spirit of the law. As perfect righteousness he was the only one who could be the perfect sacrifice without blemish to once and for all pay the penalty for our sin- that we might have life eternally with Him being lavished with His love, His joy and His Glory.

So of all the words that exist, there is only one WORD that can transform a sinner’s heart.  For all who come to the foot of the cross, seeking Christ as their greatest treasure and recognizing their own inadequacy to earn salvation on their own and accept His Gift of Salvation; will have their names written on the palms of His hands for all of eternity.  The most powerful word ever to have been spoken is the name of Jesus.  In the name of Jesus, we find more than we could ever imagine.

1.  Redemption

2. Life Eternal

3. Perfect Love

4. Wisdom

5. Hope

6. Joy

7. The Vision of Glorious Beauty

Seeing the Glorious Beauty of Christ, embracing the grace of His love and knowing the power of the name of Jesus, then why as Christians do we not proclaim it everywhere that we go.  Shouldn’t my words all be such as to Glorify Him?  Why would I ever allow profanity or gossip or self-exalting babble pour forth like destructive floods from my lips?  Oh, let me Lord learn how to keep silent when I should be silent.  Teach me how to speak in a manner that glorifies thy Name.  Let my words be like a spring of living water bubbling forth Your Wisdom, Your joy and your love.
