Let me never forget the love of Christ for me!

Let me never forget the Love of Christ for me!

When sorrows surround me and storms threaten my life, let me never forget the love of Christ for me.   No fear can enter my heart, if I truly remember the love of Christ.  Though He tarry His return, I can wait with patience, knowing He loves me with His perfect love.  Having paid the ultimate price to save me, “there is therefore now no condemnation” (Romans 8:1)  that can be mine.  And nothing can ever separate me “from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39). And everything in between is His perfecting my love toward Him, that I might reflect His Heart to the world.

So as we finish the Song of Songs, consider this.  Let us never forget the love of Christ for us.  Only then can we face this world with joy, hope, peace, and love.  Strengthened by His mighty power, we can soar above all the sorrows and trials of this world.

I Am My Beloved’s

The Daughters of Jerusalem

Where has your beloved gone,
O fairest among women?
Where has your beloved turned aside,
That we may seek him with you?

Jesus has gone away to prepare a place for His bride.  Oh, that I do not allow my love to wax cold during these years.  When everything looks so difficult.  The waiting seems unbearable at times.  Yet, I am my beloved and He is mine.  He has not abandoned me; but has gone to His Garden.  Let my devotion so shine that others may desire to seek Him with me.

The Shulamite

My beloved has gone to his garden,
To the beds of spices,
To feed his flock in the gardens,
And to gather lilies.
am my beloved’s,
And my beloved is mine.
He feeds his flock among the lilies.

Praise of the Shulamite’s Beauty

The Beloved

O my love, you are as beautiful as Tirzah,
Lovely as Jerusalem,
Awesome as an army with banners!
Turn your eyes away from me,
For they have [a]overcome me.

Oh to think that Christ could be overcome by me?  Imagine His overwhelming love that wants to draw each sheep to His side that He might shepherd them.  Yet they so foolishly turn away.  Turn your eyes upon Him until His passion is so overcome by your gaze.

The Love of Christ Declares me perfect in the Holy Spirit

My dove, my perfect one,
Is the only one,
The only one of her mother,
The favorite of the one who bore her.
The daughters saw her
And called her blessed,
The queens and the concubines,
And they praised her.

10 Who is she who looks forth as the morning,
Fair as the moon,
Clear as the sun,
Awesome as an army with banners?

The Shulamite

11 I went down to the garden of nuts
To see the verdure of the valley,
To see whether the vine had budded
And the pomegranates had bloomed.
12 Before I was even aware,
My soul had made me
As the chariots of [c]my noble people.

The Beloved and His Friends

13 Return, return, O Shulamite;
Return, return, that we may look upon you!

The Shulamite

What would you see in the Shulamite—
As it were, the dance of [d]the two camps?

The Love of Christ Declares Me Fair

It is only because of Him, that I can be declared fair, pleasant and fill with delights.  That my breath might always be nourishing to everyone I meet because I remember the love of Christ for me.

The Beloved

How fair and how pleasant you are,
O love, with your delights!
The fragrance of your [b]breath like apples,
And the roof of your mouth like the best wine.

The Shulamite

10 am my beloved’s,
And his desire is toward me.

If only I remember always the love of Christ for me, I will not forget I am my Beloved’s and His desire is toward me.  No matter how the circumstances look,  I can trust in the love of Christ who only desires the best for me.  When the storms surround, I can trust Him who is Sovereign over every detail of my life.  Everything He is doing is to transform me into one who can fully experience the joy of His Presence with me and in me.

Lovers Reunited at Their Country Home

Oh, that you were like my brother,
Who nursed at my mother’s breasts!
If I should find you outside,
I would kiss you;
I would not be despised.
I would lead you and bring you
Into the house of my mother,
She who used to instruct me.
I would cause you to drink of spiced wine,
Of the juice of my pomegranate.

(To the Daughters of Jerusalem)

His left hand is under my head,
And his right hand embraces me.
I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
Do not stir up nor awaken love
Until it pleases.

Love Renewed in Lebanon

A Relative

Who is this coming up from the wilderness,
Leaning upon her beloved?

I awakened you under the apple tree.
There your mother brought you forth;
There she who bore you brought you forth.

The Shulamite to Her Beloved

Set me as a seal upon your heart,As a seal upon your arm;
For love is as strong as death,Jealousy as [a]cruel as [b]the grave;
Its flames are flames of fire,
[c]A most vehement flame.

Let this be my prayer as well.

The Love of Christ can Seat Me-Sealed by His Heart

Oh! Lord, let me know that my name is engraven on thy heart; not only let it be there, but let me know it. Write my name not only in thy heart, but may it be as a signet on thy heart that I may see it. Doubtless there are the names of very many written upon Christ’s heart, who have not yet been able to see their names there; they are there, but not written as on a signet. Christ has loved them from all eternity; his heart has been set on them from everlasting; but as yet they have never seen the signet.

They have never had the seal of the Spirit to witness within that they are born of God. While their names may be in his heart, they have not seen them there as a seal upon his heart. And no doubt there are multitudes for whom Christ has fought and conquered, and whom he daily keeps and preserves, who have never seen their names written as a seal upon his arm. Their prayer is that they may see Christ’s love visibly, that they may discover it in their experience, that it may be beyond a question, and no more a matter of doubt, that his hand and his heart are engaged for their eternal salvation.

I repeat it, ye can all join in this prayer ye people of God; it is a cry that you would put up now and continue to put up till it is fully answered. Oh! let me know, my Lord, that I am thine, bound to thine heart; and let me know that I am thine, protected and preserved by thine arm. [1]

Let not Jealousy Separate me from knowing the Love of Christ

Let me never be jealous as I look around me, let me only remember the depth, breadth, and width of thy love for me.  So, full of grace that I never deserved.  When I see the depth of my failures, I cry out with shame; yet, you bid me come freely to thy table.  You have proclaimed me fair, righteous, and good, though I am not.  Only in you am I found to be the fairest of the fair—for you have made me so.

Nothing can quench the Love of Christ

Many waters cannot quench love,
Nor can the floods drown it.
If a man would give for love
All the wealth of his house,
It would be utterly despised.

The love of Christ is more precious than the finest of Gold.  It is His love that conquered death.  Oh, let the chains of His love so gently fetter me to Him, that I may not look to the right or the left.  Let Him so conquer my heart I want of nothing else.  Let me remember His love and Know Him—then I will not ever fear or doubt.  Regardless of the darkness that surrounds me I will trust in His love, for my Beloved is mine and I am His for all of eternity.

The Beloved

13 You who dwell in the gardens,
The companions listen for your voice—
Let me hear it!

The Shulamite

14 Make[d] haste, my beloved,
And be like a gazelle
Or a young stag
On the mountains of spices.

He has left me here in the garden to tend to it.  Oh, that the fruits may be plentiful.  Let me labor that I might present to Him the fruits of that labor.  Though I know indeed even then the labor is His.  The Harvest is His.  He will draw all whom He has foreknown to Himself.  Even, so, come Lord Jesus.

Or as William Cowper son well knew, if ever I forget the love of Christ I shall find  “What peaceful hours I once enjoyed! How sweet their memory still! But they have left an aching void, The world can never fill.”
