If I Only Had a Brain

Fountains of Wisdom—A Study in Proverbs part 43—“If I Only Had A Brain”

As I continued this study in Proverbs, I could not help but notice the themes in Proverbs 26 being that of the fool, while Proverbs 27 dealt with the heart, and Proverbs 28 with courage. I could not help but think about the characters from the “Wizard of Oz”. The scarecrow who went in search of a brain, the tin man searching for a heart and the lion in search of courage. How much like these characters are we humans!!

We go on a never-ending search for knowledge and truth. We are a very tech-savvy world searching for the next bigger, better video game—the newest computer or the next Smartphone. We want knowledge. Societies search for philosophies that would govern a utopia; but, alas the more we search—the more evil, sorrow, war and death surround us. We search our earth for more resources; while we continue to use up those resources present with our greed and desire for more. We want to control all around us by our great knowledge and skill; yet, with all we do can we tell the rain when to fall or turn a tornado from its path?

We are but fools in search of a brain. As a whole, mankind continues on this never ending search for knowledge while at the same time ignoring the very source of all knowledge and truth—God, our Creator and King.

Turn to Deuteronomy–

Deuteronomy 32(GNV) “1 Hearken, ye[a]heavens, and I will speak: and let the earth hear the words of my mouth.2 My [b]doctrine shall drop as the rain, and my speech shall still as the dew, as the shower upon the herbs, and as the great rain upon the grass.3 For I will publish the Name of the Lord: give ye glory unto our God.4 Perfect is the work of the [c]mighty God: for all his ways are judgment. God is true, and without wickedness: just and righteous is he.5 They have corrupted themselves toward him by their vice, not being his children, but a froward and crooked generation.6 Do ye so reward the Lord, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father, that hath bought thee? he hath[d]made thee, and proportioned thee.”

We are all but fools unless we turn from our ways and seek after God, trusting Him as our Salvation, our Hope and our Provider. The only true wisdom is found in the Word made flesh—Jesus Christ. Our hope of a Brain that views the world with a longing to seek after Christ and to proclaim His name as the only One which satisfies our deepest desire for Joy, Hope and Glory can only be found in the Grace and Salvation He has already provided for all who would believe. Of all the books written, there is only one that can bring life—bringing each who read it to fully being Alive. Not just a bunch of Zombies going through the motions; but a people who are really truly Fully Alive.

So those of you who do not know Christ, I urge you to read more at How To Be Saved.

And for all you Christians, remember this. In this journey there may be moments of trials, there may be those moments when you fall down, and there may be periods which seem like deserts; but God always restores our soul in His own timing. I wrote you last week that I had been going through a desert of my soul; but, I must tell you I am fully restored. As such, I want to like David pray, “Psalm 69 (Amp) 5 O God, You know my folly and blundering; my sins and my guilt are not hidden from You.6 Let not those who wait and hope and look for You, O Lord of hosts, be put to shame through me; let not those who seek and inquire for and require You [as their vital necessity] be brought to confusion and dishonor through me, O God of Israel.”

God is my Joy, my hope and my Salvation—my heart is overflowing with Him.

Now, I ask you to go back and read Proverbs 26 and see what grief is in store for those who are singing “If I Only Had a Brain”
