I daresay deep within each human heart is an overwhelming desire to be Loved. The ability and the desire to love were given to us by our creator, although its power over us can be so mysterious at times. The depth of our ability to love another, desiring their continuous presence. Wanting to know everything we can about our beloved. Never satisfied from our insatiable desire of even just sitting in their presence. Proclaiming to everyone we meet of how wonderful our beloved truly is. Yet, in all that, did you ever consider this is but a glimpse of what it is to really know the truest love of all? A tiny glimpse at best to experiencing the truest love of all! Our human love, at its absolute best is minuscule compared to the love we can really know with Jesus, our dear Lord.
However, what a magnificent God to have created us in such a manner that we might know and experience love here upon this earth. A foreshadowing, however dimmed it might be, of what it is to know and feel His love above all else. We tend to believe that love is the ultimate of feelings which can cause our hearts to soar above all of life’s trials, if only for our beloved. But have you ever considered what it truly is to experience fully the truest love of all? That is the love God calls us to. He wants us to love Him with all our hearts, our strength, our minds, and souls; because, He knows therein we will experience the sweetest, most exuberant joy we could ever know.
Hence why He would include this love song in the Bible describing the truest love of all in a story we can comprehend.
A Parable of Sorts
Often in Gods word, we find parables planted. Such is the story of Hosea who married a promiscuous woman. She broke his heart many times over. Yet, his love remained. He brought her back to care for her when she was fully broken by her choices. A tender picture of God’s love with His people in terms that our human minds could understand. For we are incapable in this broken human state to fully comprehend God or even desire Him. Although He is all around us, we hardly notice His Hands of Grace unless He draws us by whatever means He can. The same is shown to us in the stories of Ruth, Joseph, Jonah, and throughout scripture.
God reaches out to us to speak to us in terms these human minds can comprehend. Calling us to Himself. The perfect, picturesque garden found in the book Song of Songs should take us back to remember the perfect Garden of Eden before Adam and Eve chose to disobey God and plunge all of humanity away from the truest love of all—a intimate relationship with Love Himself. Furthermore, it should cause us to look forward to the garden described in Revelations 22:1-2 when the King of Kings reigns over a new heaven and new earth.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3: 16-17.
Song of Songs About the Truest Love of All
Beyond that, the Old Testament is much more than a compilation of historical books. It is the story of Jesus Christ. His love for us. Each book pointing us to Him. So, as we embark on a study of Song of Songs, the Song of Solomon, let us realize this is the Song of Songs to show us the Lord of Lords and King of Kings.
Where better can God reach into the very being of our understanding than to tell us a love story. Here the story of love between a King and his beloved. She who was an unlikely maiden found working within a garden forsaken by her brothers. As we unfold these chapters, I hope to help you see that it is more than just a story about true love, relationship, and marriage. It goes far beyond that. It is the story of the truest love of all, Jesus Christ for His bride. Should we not seek Him and love Him with the same passion as the Shulamite woman for her King? I hope to help you see that He is so worthy of that love and help you to love Him and bath in His overpowering love for you.
That is where you can find hope, peace, and joy everlasting, steadfast and always abiding for you every minute of every day. Oh, that I every day learn to love Him more and relish His love for me as the most precious treasure I hold, nourishing it continuously.
