Certainly at times it seems that all around me is fading into darkness. So much anger, strife, and suffering in the world. However, whenever that happens, I reflect upon that fate filled day when the sky grew black as they lead Jesus away to die upon that cross. Then, I remember and have hope. This darkness is but the beginning of the dawn. In Genesis, God wrote each day concerning creation, “the evening and the morning were the day.” The darkness comes before the morning light. As I pondered upon these things, I wrote this poem
The Sky Grew Dark that Fate filled Day
The Sky grew dark that fate-filled day As from the Cross my Lord did say It is finished-it was His battle cry As then He bowed His head to die Oh, What is this? Is all now lost? Was this the price of sin? The cost To save my wretched selfish heart Perfect Love was torn apart Spirit, Father turned their back The earth did quake. The sky turned black Hope Appeared to die that day But had we not heard Him say He would rise again to set us free Over sin and death came victory The story did not end that day He rose again to lead the way For all who humbly call His name Acknowledge guilt of sin and shame By faith accept His sacrifice And there receive eternal life To stand before His Glorious throne As His Beloved You are there known How dark the clouds, the earth today Finished, some do shout and say Evil circles us around this world Where truth is crushed and lies hurled Just as hope seems to fade away I heard my Savior’s voice then say My Love, the end has just begun But as you know, the victory’s won The end of sorrows, pain and fear Is coming soon, it’s almost here All of this a minor cost To bring to Me the lame, the lost So, look my dear into my eyes I’ll take your sorrows, pains and sighs Replace them with my heart of love My peace, my joy to rise above All the darkness of this land You’re firmly held in my right hand Eternity will soon begin Just wait a while, you know we win Just as I promised long ago My word I left that you might know I am the way, the truth, the life The only one who conquered strife
And so my question is dear friends, do you know Him? The skies grew dark on that fate-filled day. Yet, He rose again to win the victory over pain, sin, death, and strife. He is returning again soon. Although it may appear dark, the night is its darkest just before the dawn. He is coming again soon.
2 Thessalonians 2
2 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
Do Not Forget even as the sky grew dark
5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the [d]mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Stand Fast
13 But we are [f]bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work. 2 Thessalonians 2
DO YOU KNOW CHRIST AS YOUR SAVIOR AND LORD? He is our only Hope in Life and Death! Our Joy is found in Him.
