What Is The Greatest Oath Ever Made?
He had spoken the world into being. He said let there be light. Instantaneously billions of light sources poured forth from His mouth. What we know as the sun, the moon and all the stars were formed with one word of God. Then, God formed man from the dust of the earth. Gently molding and shaping someone to lavish His love, joy, and glory upon. He knew that man would choose to worship himself (the creation) more than the creator; yet, He proceeded. He knew that the road to redeem man from that fallen state would mean Christ would have to bear the penalty for that sin. Still, His love was too great to not share it. He would bear the cost of love.
[bctt tweet=”After Adam sinned, God swore an oath to send a Savior He gave His word that light would come”].
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.” (John 1 NIV)
JESUS IS THE WORD MADE FLESH
Yesterday, as I was on the plane flying to California to be with my daughter and her family; I opened my Bible and read those words from John 1. I knew that as I read them they meant so much; yet, did I really grasp the truth? John had begun his epistle differently than any of the other apostles. The Word of God-equally God in all His fullness was also the co-creator of all the Universe. He was the light that came to shine into darkness to bring life. He was the promise of redemption. He would bring abundant life to all who would accept His atoning work on the cross. He was God’s Promise made into a reality. Until Christ’s birth, it was a promise—an oath made by God. That promise became reality with Christ’s birth, death, and resurrection.
NO GREATER LIGHT-GOD’S OATH FULFILLED
“9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1)
AN OATH THAT WILL NEVER BE BROKEN
God had made a promise to save “all who would believe and by faith receive His gift of salvation. He swore upon no greater power than Himself-His own Word. “17 God also bound himself with an oath, so that those he promised to help would be perfectly sure and never need to wonder whether he might change his plans. 18 He has given us both his promise and his oath, two things we can completely count on, for it is impossible for God to tell a lie. Now all those who flee to him to save them can take new courage when they hear such assurances from God; now they can know without doubt that he will give them the salvation he has promised them.19 This certain hope of being saved is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls, connecting us with God himself behind the sacred curtains of heaven, 20 where Christ has gone ahead to plead for us from his position as our High Priest (Hebrews 6 TLB)
The greatest oath every fulfilled was God’s promise of redemption to mankind. The victory was won when Christ was resurrected on the cross. That promise was made flesh, the word became reality and will be returning again. [bctt tweet=”God’s word has never failed and will never fail. Let us seek God and His word.”] Let His words enter our hearts with light to cast out all darkness.
Psalm 119: 130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple… 133 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
