5 PSALMS TO ASSIST YOUR HEART TO PRAY

5 Psalms to Assist Your Heart to Pray

So, this is day two of our 30 day challenge in prayer.  How are you doing?  I must say that setting aside 30 minutes with no interruptions is not easy at first.  For me the interruptions are my own brain wandering away to other things.   So, what helped me today was the minute my brain seemed to wander: I pulled out my Bible and opened to the Psalms and began to out loud pray the words from the Psalms to God.

[bctt tweet=”Our two most powerful weapons  are God’s Word and Prayer. Combined they are a formidable force.”]  A force that will empower us to success and guarantee victory!!!  What will that look like in my life?  I am not certain. What I am certain of:  whatever God’s view of success and victory is for my life, I want that.

Here are the words of  5 Psalms that helped me to focus today.  I hope they inspire you as well.

Psalm 8: O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens…3When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?…9O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Psalm 16: (TLB)  5The Lord himself is my inheritance, my prize. He is my food and drink, my highest joy! He guards all that is mine. 6 He sees that I am given pleasant brooks and meadows as my share![a] What a wonderful inheritance! 7 I will bless the Lord who counsels me; he gives me wisdom in the night. He tells me what to do. 8I am always thinking of the Lord; and because he is so near, I never need to stumble or fall. 9Heart, body, and soul are filled with joy. 10 For you will not leave me among the dead; you will not allow your beloved one to rot in the grave.11 You have let me experience the joys of life and the exquisite pleasures of your own eternal presence.

Psalm 18:  I will love thee, O Lord, my strength. 2The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

Psalm 63: 1-8 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.

Psalms 19:7-14 (TLB)  God’s laws are perfect. They protect us, make us wise, and give us joy and light. 9 God’s laws are pure, eternal, just.[b] 10 They are more desirable than gold. They are sweeter than honey dripping from a honeycomb. 11 For they warn us away from harm and give success to those who obey them. But how can I ever know what sins are lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. 13 And keep me from deliberate wrongs; help me to stop doing them. Only then can I be free of guilt and innocent of some great crime.  May my spoken words and unspoken thoughts be pleasing even to you, O Lord my Rock and my Redeemer.
