Display Thy Glory, Love and Joy

Thy Glory Drawing Nigh

By Effie Darlene Barba

The clouds that dance across the sky

The shades of green beneath that lie

Sunlight’s rays stretch from on high

Display Thy Glory drawing nigh

The strength and hope as friends draw near

To speak a word of kindness, cheer

To give a smile or dry a tear

Display Thy love—that Thou art here

A toddling baby’s laughter, squeal

The wonder, awe of all that’s real

A child like glee we’re bid to feel

Displays Thy joy-so great, surreal

Oh, Lord; Thy Grace, Thy Love Divine

Thou art a treasure-precious fine

To think you chose to make me thine

How could a man thy gift decline!

Dear Lord, I ask, “Help me Display

Thy love, Thy Grace, Thy joy today.

For someone lost or gone astray

A guiding light that shines the way.”

“Disavowing pride, my heart of stone

To humbly bow before Thy Throne

And let your light through me be shone

That Thy Dear Son might then be known”

Unto a world so filled with pain

Where sin has left such crimson stain

And Lies of man, a joy doth feign

Where evil hearts thy love constrain

If they could see thy true delight

Thy mercies new each dawning light

Thy Glorious beauty shining bright

Thy strength, thy sovereignty, thy might

The clouds that dance across the sky

The shades of green beneath that lie

Sunlight’s rays stretch from on high

Display Thy Glory drawing nigh

God’s Battle Song

Deuteronomy 20:1 “When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee”

In this life, we face many battles some from without and some from within our own hearts; yet, we may stand firm in faith because of God’s Grace and love.  He is our victory.   Let me share with you this song I wrote.

God’s Battle Song

In this Battleground 0f life

When all is trial, pain and strife

I hear God’s voice, this battle cry

His song of love that fills the sky

Chorus:

“Cast aside your pain and fear

For I AM is always near

I promised you-wait and see

You will shout the victory

As my Joy, My strength, my Song

Becomes hope you will  stand  strong

I love you child, you are mine

Glory’s light on you doth shine”

In my battles deep within

When my heart desires to sin

I hear God’s voice this battle cry

A song of love that fills the sky

Chorus:

“Cast aside your pain and fear

For I AM is always near

I promised you-wait and see

You will shout the victory

As my Joy, My strength, my Song

Becomes hope you will  stand  strong

I love you child, you are mine

Glory’s light on you doth shine”

Oh, when sorrow breaks my heart

And I don’t have strength to start

I hear God’s voice, this battle cry

His song of love that fills the sky

Chorus:

“Cast aside your pain and fear

For I AM is always near

I promised you-wait and see

You will shout the victory

As my Joy, My strength, my Song

Becomes hope you will  stand  strong

I love you child, you are mine

Glory’s light on you doth shine”

When my life on earth is done

And my final race is run

I’ll hear God’s voice, this battle cry

His song of love that fills the sky

Chorus:

“Cast aside your pain and fear

For I AM is always near

I promised you-wait and see

You will shout the victory

As my Joy, My strength, my Song

Becomes hope you will  stand  strong

I love you child, you are mine

Glory’s light on you doth shine”

Not Tonight

In honor of national police week, I wanted to repost this poem I wrote in March 2014.  I wrote yesterday a reminder that as Christians we are to 1.  Live a life of honor and righteousness as displays the life we have in Christ.  2.  Be submissive to those whom are placed in positions of authority over us and 3.  Remember our own frailties and the darkness of our own sin for which we have been forgiven freely by the blood of Christ.  It is so easy for some to stereotype “all police”; yet, to do so one has to dehumanize the officers.  This is a reminder of their humanity.  Every life matters in the eyes of God and we need to open our hearts in love, mercy and grace to display Christ to the world—that is my duty as a Christian.  God has ordained that we be law abiding citizens and that there be those in authority over us as an act of His Common Grace so that we might not live in a world of total chaos overrun by pure evil.  Evil is present lurking at our doorsteps; so, we each need to daily examine our own hearts and present ourselves humbly at the foot of the cross.  We need to give the respect to the officers who have vowed to protect us, sometimes with their own lives as those placed there by God’s Common Grace.

Along the Road of Life

Along the Road of Life

By Effie Darlene Barba

As I walked along this road of life

Amidst the rambling thorns of strife

I felt the pains-like sharpened knife

Tear open scars of yonder day

I gazed before me – looming there

Were mountain peaks in sunlit glare

I wanted then to cry a prayer

My silenced voice nothing could say

I felt so desperately alone

Until a light before me shone

A King who sat upon a throne

A path now lit before me lay

And then I heard a still small voice

That called to me to sing, rejoice

I pondered then to make the choice

Oh could it be I could say yea.

I felt within a warmth, a glow

It felt as if my heart did grow

As joy and love within did flow

The pains were gone, now gone away

I took a step, just one at first

Desiring more His hope I thirst

To drink His love until I burst

With laughter’s wondrous ray

Amazing then before my eyes

The mountains that had hid the skies

No longer did before me rise

Instead beneath my feet did lay

My heart rejoicing always sings

As lifted up on eagles wings

My weakness bids- His strength He brings

My fears and doubts He comes to slay

And so dear friends, I bid you now

To follow Him, before Him bow

My greatest treasure I avow

His Joy will fill your heart today

I Turned and Saw the Face of God

I Turned and Saw the Face of God

by Effie Darlene Barba

I turned and saw the Face of God

His Glory did surround me

He smiled and gave a wink, a nod

No chaos could confound me

His Grace and Mercy were now mine

His Joy was Mine Abounding

That I might then His Glory shine

And shout His praise resounding

My Life now filled with Joy and hope

Amidst the chaos, pain, and grief

No more I’m left to merely cope

Wrapped in God, my soul’s relief

I’ll sing and dance this song of praise

Mountain peaks or valleys low

Protected by His watchful gaze

Fanning flames of life aglow

Oh what a Gracious Wondrous thought

When His soft voice spoke my name

In sin’s dark lair, my heart distraught

So laden with my guilt and shame

I turned and saw the Face of God

His Glory did surround me

He smiled and gave a wink, a nod

No chaos could confound me

His Grace and Mercy were now mine

His Joy was Mine Abounding

That I might then His Glory shine

And shout His praise resounding
