“The Cry of Rejection” in a Dark Broken World

In a dark, broken world where anger and hatred abound, the cry of rejection resounds loudly in our ears.  Where do we turn to find the love that our hearts long for?

The Cry of Rejection in a Dark Broken World

By Effie Darlene Barba

The sound of their words

What they had said

Repeatedly playing sad tunes in my head

The Scars from my past

The sorrows, regret

Like sirens whose blaring I could not forget

In darkness, alone

My heart’s cry does long

To desperately feel somewhere I belong

To know I am loved

To make my appeal

Rejection the thought that seemed all too real

It wasn’t their fault

How could they have known?

The scars I hid deep and never had shown

The secrets of heart

That longed to be found

That they might be healed by love to abound

The counterfeit lies

Were just a mistake

Like shattering glass my heart then to break

Oh, where is the truth

In a Dark, broken world

Where sorrows and pain are relentlessly hurled

The sin of man’s pride

Has taken its toll

Wreaking havoc on each and every dear soul

Yet, if truth be told

Beneath all our will

Is a void only God’s love could refill!

His Love reached beyond

The abyss we had crossed

He never considered it too great a cost

To accept rejection

Of man toward His Son

Who in His despair our victory was won!

Unworthy though I

He loved me the same

And called me as His by my very name

To be loved as His child

He is all that I need

In Him to be known and truly be freed

Freed from desires

Of counterfeit things

From trinkets and toys or frivolous flings

Grounded, secured

In God’s loving arms

Freed from the lure of all this world’s charms

As He draws me near

To sit for a while

Enwrapped with His joy, I truly can smile

My worries all fade

As in Him I belong

My heart can now sing a joyous love song

Only One Answer

There is only one answer:  Jesus.  Only He can heal all the pain and sorrow that lies within your heart.  He stands with open arms and bids you come to Him.

Sometimes When I’m Tired, Afraid, and Alone

There are times along this journey, when we are tired.  And with that weariness of heart, fear or loneliness creeps into our being.  Yesterday, was such a day.  This came after weeks of abounding faith; yet, it hit me like a ton of bricks.  I found myself irritable, afraid, and depressed.   You might think it strange, after my last post was filled with how to have faith.  But, you see, that is when Satan loves to attack us.  It began the evening before when my hopes soared as an email said my application was referred on; however, in going into the website, it said “not referred” as your qualifications were not enough. Rejected.

Knowing I am needed in Florida, I took this as God tearing my heart in two, as though He was saying, your not good enough. (Although that is Satan’s lie every time).  For a few hours, I fought the fear, the tears, and the pain, not even knowing what to ask from God.  He had heard it all before from me.  I then awoke yesterday with the same feelings of despair, making it hard to even read my Bible.  After multiple errands, I came home and took a nap.  When I awoke I listened to a sermon by Charles Stanley, read the scriptures, and asked God to forgive my unbelief.  Then it came again, that peace of knowing God Is and He blesses all those who seek Him.

So, I wrote for you today this poem.

Sometimes When I’m Tired, Afraid, and Alone

Sometimes when I’m tired, afraid, and alone

My heart cries to you with tears or a moan

Forgetting that you are still on Your throne

And all of the Grace to me that you’ve shown

My eyes lose their focus, a moment or two

I fall to my knees and cry out to You

Seeking Your face, Your love I pursue

Quiet and still, Your face then I view

Filled with remorse, Oh, what have I done

Forgetting to trust in Your Beloved Son

Tis then to the cross, I heartily run

Broken, Contrite, and feeling undone

Yet, You’re standing there with arms open wide

Instilling the faith that I had let slide

Removing the dust of my human pride

That there in Your Grace, my heart may abide

Then, peace like a river covers my life

Removing the stress, the pain and the strife

Reminding me that Your will is the best

And in Your dear love, I always find rest

Dear Lord, take my life, conform it to be

The life that you’ve planned by Your love for me

And when I am blind, please Lord, help me to see

That You are the treasure, that brings my heart glee.

Concluding Thoughts

When life looks impossible and you are tired, afraid, and alone; run home, fall on your knees with your Bible in hand.  God will restore your faith.  His plan is best for You and I.

When God Says Go-I Traveled Far

Each time that God said, “go”; I wondered what legacy I left behind.  When people think of me, will they see God.  I traveled far. Although, I am weary of travel, starting over;  my heart knows I must go again.  So many things to get down.  Many questions with no answer.  Yet, I know God goes before and has a perfect plan etched out by His Hand of Love.

I’d Traveled Far

I’d traveled far across this land

Unto the eastern shore

Uncertain of what God had planned

Alone, I stood once more

I’d heard Him bid for me to go

Twas all I needed know

And then I saw, as time did pass

His plan begin unfold

I had been placed within His class

To learn His love untold

And as I saw His Glory Shine

His joy, His love now mine

I met dear friends along this way

That helped me as I grew

And others stumbling blocks did lay

God used to guide me too

That I might see His Grace His might

With Christ my guiding light

And Now I know that I must go

To leave these all behind

I wonder if my life did show

A Glimpse of God’s dear mind

And did my life His Glory shine

Within this mirror of mine

Oh, Lord I have this one request

When memories of me rise

That they might see how I was blessed

Your Grace my greatest prize

You took this broken, selfish heart

To fill Your Love Impart

So, can you Lord, use all I’ve done

Though blend of good and bad

To point them Lord to your dear son

His Grace, His Love did clad

A simple person such as I

With righteousness on High

When God Says Go

For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the Lord will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your reward.   Isaiah 52:12

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.  Isaiah 41:10

A Grace So Grand-Sunday Poem

A Grace So Grand

by Effie Darlene Barba

My Lord, how can I understand

The Grace on which my faith doth stand?

A Grace so grand that sought me out

Pursued this heart so filled with doubt

My heart desired for lesser things

Like love of men or diamond rings

And though I did not seek your face

You reached to me to give me grace

How could it be you loved me so?

That on this heart of stone bestow

A love so great it drew me in

And pardoned me for all my sin

Forgiving all that I have done

Redeemed I stand by thy dear Son

That died the death that should be mine

So, in His Glory I might shine

As beacon of His love so pure

Tis Grace that holds my heart secure

Your Grace that drew my heart aside

And bid me in your love abide

And by thy Grace my heart doth vow

To give you all, before you bow

My life is yours-do as you will

What e’er it takes to this heart fill

With your dear love, to overflow

Unto the world that they may know

It was your Grace that loved me so

Your joy has set my life a glow

Your Grace does call to them to come

Drawn by your love to then succumb

Unto your will, accept your Son

And know the life that He hath won

To Be Made Perfect in Love-a poem of faith

When I first received the call, I knew I would have to go.  My dear, precious son on the line said, “Mom, I need you.”  With no hesitation, I hung up knowing that I would be moving there.  Love commanded that I go.  When God commanded 5 1/2 years ago that I move to Columbia, MO, I said yes.  Then, I waited for all the doors to open.  Well, that time; God awoke my heart to know that I was to take a leap of faith with no nets to catch me.  I am so glad I did.  My life is filled with wonderful things.  I love my job, my patients, the doctors I work with, my time alone with God and my Bible each morning, my son, grandchildren, school and all of you.

Wow! I could go on forever saying how wonderful my life is, filled with joy and peace; because, I obeyed.

Perhaps, for that reason; when the gravity of the move at my age set in-a moment of panic hit.  I looked at all I had and a piece of my heart wanted to cling to all that is familiar.  God, suddenly revealed the truth that at the center of my heart, I had not been perfected yet in love.  What if Christ had hesitated or said, “Hold on, I don’t know that I want to do this. Leave my perfect place at God’s side, surrounded by perfect joy and peace, to go where He would be mocked, hated, and crucified.

A TIME UNKNOWN

This time, instead of me hesitating; at least not now.  Love did win, as God began to transform my heart and drain the selfish chaff.  He reminded me that obedience brought all that I have now and He is in Sovereign control of my future as well.  Obedience does lead to His perfect plan for my life.  However, this time; He has asked me to wait for His perfect timing and not to run ahead.  Once the decision is made, it is hard to wait patiently; but, I shall rest in His Grace to show me when.  So, keep me in your prayers as well.

Because of all this:  I wrote this poem today.  Never forget, God is constantly at work in your heart and mine to transform us into the image of Christ.  He will perfect us in love, as we listen to His commands and follow Him.

PERFECT IN LOVE

by Effie Darlene Barba

Perfect in love, oh how can that be

When bits of my heart think only of me

I bid you now Lord, to set my heart free

From selfish desires, only then I can see

The cost of your love for my liberty

To an old rugged cross, you went willingly

Leaving your throne, your comfort and glee

You chose the pain with humility

You counted it joy to die on that tree

My redemption to buy, that was your decree

To offer forgiveness, that was your plea

Though I was the one, hands and heart guilty

You left everything with no thought to flee

You ran to my side providing for me

A chance to see You in all Your Glory

Wrapped in Your love eternally

So, now that I hear your voice bid me go

To places unknown, Your Glory to show

To hearts shattered, broken whose lights lost their glow

The pains and the sorrows of life made them low

My Precious Lord, how could I say no

Your perfect love commands I bestow

Upon them Your Love, as I’ve come to know

You go now beside me, You are my guide

In Your Perfect Love my heart will abide

Your perfect love casting out fear

Replacing it with Your Joy and Your cheer
