In a world so diverse, filled with thoughts, ideas, nations, and philosophies, some say we must not hold too tightly to any truth. Yet, all our cheered to proclaim one’s own truth. That is unless my truth is one that clings firmly to the Word of God. Even within the church we see compromise and divisions. Yet, that is not a new phenomenon. This was happening in the early church of Colossae. Yet then and now we must remain rooted in the Truth of Jesus Christ! Why? Would not love our neighbors allow for compromise? Ah, not really! If you jumped into a fire, saying it is not fire, would love allow you to believe the lie you will be ok? To remain rooted in the truth of Jesus Christ, we must never forget who we are in Him.
If indeed I am His redeemed, beloved, chosen child—endowed with His power, His Joy and His strength; then, love compels me to never compromise. Therefore, love demands I remain rooted in the truth of Jesus Christ. Jesus replied, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” John 14:6 NET. Jesus is the very Word of truth, undeniable truth.
Our goals should be as those of Paul, “2 My goal is that[c] their hearts, having been knit together[d] in love, may be encouraged, and that[e] they may have all the riches that assurance brings in their understanding of the knowledge of the mystery of God, namely, Christ,[f] 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
In Christ are hidden ALL the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
We Must Remain Rooted in the Truth of Jesus Christ
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by[f] him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1(ESV).
Or as John wrote, “In the beginning[a] was the Word, and the Word was with God,[b] and the Word was fully God.[c] 2 The Word[d] was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created[e] by him, and apart from him not one thing was created[f] that has been created.[g] 4 In him was life,[h] and the life was the light of mankind.[i] 5 And the light shines on[j] in the darkness,[k] but[l] the darkness has not mastered it.[m]…14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Imagine this, He knew my name before He ever created the world. The patience, endurance, and steadiness of mind that pursued me with His unrelenting love. How could I ever do less than to desire Him above all else? That kind of love, mercy, and grace is beyond anything I could imagine. Therefore, I must desire to remain rooted in the truth of Jesus Christ. Anything else would only draw me away from His presence.
Colossians 2:
6 Therefore, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,[l] continue to live your lives[m] in him, 7 rooted[n] and built up in him and firm[o] in your[p] faith just as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. 8 Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you[q] through an empty, deceitful philosophy[r] that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits[s] of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in him all the fullness of deity lives[t] in bodily form, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head over every ruler and authority….4 I say this so that no one will deceive you through arguments[g] that sound reasonable.[h]
Do not let yourselves be drawn away by the vain philosophies of man, regardless of how enticing or convincing they might seem. To avoid this what must we do to remain rooted in the truth of Jesus
- Remember who we are in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1-3)
- Yield your spirit to the Holy Spirit who indwells every believer. His job it is to transform us. Ours is to surrender to Him by trusting Him. (Romans 8)
- Study the word every morning and night. (Psalm 119:11)
- Put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6) knowing your adversary the devil is seeking whom he may devour (I Peter 5:8)
- Rejoice in the Lord, trusting Him even in the storms of life. (Philippians 4:19
So why must we remain rooted in the truth of Jesus Christ?
“you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the [i]handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it” Colossians 2 (KJV)
Since He has made us free from our trespasses and sins, why would we ever look back or desire to be placed again into the bondages of this world?
Colossians 2
“20 If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21 “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22 (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.” Colossians 2
We must remain rooted in the truth of Jesus Christ, so we might rightly divide the truth from the lies we are being told by the world around us. They wish to say, they are holy; but do not even know the only one who is perfect righteousness.
