What now? Look up Victory belongs to God Alone!

The Victory Belongs to God Alone

When life’s battles surround and overwhelm us, too often we see only defeat.  We want to say what now?  Our minds whirl with possibilities to keep our hope alive.  Yet as each one falls to the wayside; we begin to feel defeated and hopeless.  We wonder if God even hears our prayers.  Silence and despair invade our hearts.  However, the truth is:  we think God needs us to discover the solution.  Oh, yes, we are to march forward, trusting His faithfulness and never give up.  But we must always remember victory belongs to God Alone!  And He will accomplish all that He has planned.  The Glory belongs to Him alone.

Let us take a moment to look at some of the battles He won in the Old Testament as well as one that is yet to come.  There are more to come; but I think this one recorded in Ezekiel will bring hope to your hearts.   By doing so let us be fully reminded that God is Sovereign.  His Glory is magnificent beyond all that we can imagine.  And He does not share His Glory with anyone.  When all looks to be over, He steps forward with a plan that leaves no doubt—for every battle we face as a Christian, Victory Belongs to God Alone!

Victory Belongs to God Alone!

There were many battles in the Old Testament where the odds were completely against God’s people; yet He miraculously stepped in.  So, let us name a few you might remember.

Abraham’s 318 against the Armies of Shinar (Babylon) – Genesis 14

Pharaoh Pursues the Israelites in Exodus – Exodus 14—that was when all seemed lost and no chance the people could escape.   Then the red sea parted. The mud became dry land. The Israelites crossed and Pharaoh’s army drowned.

Israel Marches on the City of Jericho –The battle plan was crazy.  All Joshua did was have them march around the city, daily being led by seven priests with trumpets and the ARK of the Lord.  Joshua 6.  20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.  Obviously, the victory belongs to God Alone!

Joshua 10-Victory Belongs to God Alone.

And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.

So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.

And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.

10 And the Lord discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

11 And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the Lord cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

12 Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel.

The men were sent out to fight; but the victory belongs to the Lord.

David and Goliath, Samson, and Gideon

Often, we find that the victory is won by God against all odds.  Remember David slew Goliath with one stone.  Samson, when he came to the end of himself, slew the philistines by pushing against the pillars.  The victory belongs to God alone in every one of these incidents.  And Samson, was an act of grace after he repented and turned back to God, for he had so failed God at one point in his life.

These are but a few examples.  There was the time Gideon led an army of only 300 men against the entire Midianite army

Judges 7: Victory Belongs to God Alone

15 And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the Lord hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

16 And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.

17 And he said unto them, look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.

18 When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.

19 So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.

20 And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.

21 And they stood every man in his place round about the camp; and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.

22 And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the Lord set every man’s sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host

The Victory belongs to God!  Gideon’s men did not even raise a sword.  The enemies in confusion killed themselves.  This brings me to a battle told of in Ezekiel that is yet to come.

Ezekiel

The book of Ezekiel the Prophet is filled with God’s Glory.  From His first appearing to Ezekiel and throughout.

When Ezekiel questioned God as to who might worship or listen.  God told him to preach to the field of dry bones.  (Much like our nation with so many spiritually dead.  Then as Ezekiel preached, the bones stood up and became flesh.  As He continued and called to the wind (the Holy Spirit) the bones came alive to worship God.  The revival we need in our country.  So, the Victory Belongs to God for revival as well as in our battles.

Additionally, Ezekiel tells us of a battle that is yet to come when “the prince of Rosh and his allies come forth against Israel”.  Tim Lahaye places this battle at the beginning of the Tribulation period since it says it will take 7 years to clean up the debris.  Furthermore, this is soon before the Antichrist signs the treaty with Israel which starts the 7 years.  What is uncertain is if this war begins before or after the rapture; but it is at a moment when Israel has been lulled into believing peace has finally been possible. (Perhaps very soon).   Many believe Rosh to be Russia plus her allies with possibly China, Syria and more.  Impossible for Israel to stand against such armies.  But watch the details of how the battle is won against all odds.

Ezekiel 38:

18 And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord God, that my fury shall come up in my face.

19 For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;

20 So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.

21 And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord God: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.

22 And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

23 Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord.

Note how the battle will be won.

  1.  God sends an earthquake
  2. Confusions causes the armies to kill themselves rather than the Israelites
  3. Fire and brimstone will fall from the sky to complete the task.

Then,

Ezekiel 39:

Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:

And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.

Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.

Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord God.

And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the Lord.

So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel….

11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog.

12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.

The Victory Belongs to God Alone!

What battles are we facing today?  God knows and God has a plan of Victory for everyone who knows Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  Our nation is facing a very tumultuous time; but rest assured.  Victory Belongs to God Alone.  My only question to you is:  Do you know Him as Savior and Lord? Keep ready and listen for His trumpets to sound.  Read His word as the precious love letters your heart desires.  Love Him above all else.  Seek His face and know this His Glory will shine forth.  He will accomplish all that He has planned.  We will stand in Glory with Him and even return on the clouds as His Precious Bride coming to reign with Him during the millennial reign of Christ.
