Is the 70th Week Prophesied by Daniel Really Good?

Following the rapture of the church, the 70th week of years that Daniel prophesied of in Daniel 9:24.  Thus, the tribulation period will begin. But is there anything about the tribulation that is really good?   With the influence of the true church made up of Christ’s followers gone, mankind will do whatever he feels is right in his own eyes.  The angel speaking to Daniel of the 70 weeks says the following.  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy (Daniel 9:24).  The ultimate end to the prophecy is yet a time in the future when Israel embraces her true Messiah, which is Jesus.

The 70th weeks of years were divided into three sections.  The first being seven weeks of years which began with the decree to rebuild the temple given by Artaxerxes in 457 BC.  Cyrus, King of Persia had given permission of the Jewish people to return to Jerusalem just as prophesied by Isaiah.  (Isaiah 44:28). And furthermore, fulfilling the prophecy of Jeremiah that the people would be freed from Babylonian captivity after 70 years.  At the completion of the 7 weeks of years (49 years), Jerusalem had been rebuilt.  Then began the next 62 weeks of years which ended when Christ entered Jerusalem.  Then as prophesied the Messiah was cut off (crucified).  The 70th week to complete Israel’s prophecy is yet to be fulfilled in the future.

Yet, it ends with Israel embracing her Messiah and the Second Return of Christ to set up His Millennial Reign.  Despite seven years of horror, Righteousness will finally reign.

The 70th Week–Tribulation First Foretold

Daniel spoke of the first 3.5 years, at which time the anti-Christ will establish a pseudo-peace, particularly with Israel.   Daniel 9: 27 tells us he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week. And in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease. For the overspreading of abominations, he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

It is during that time that 144000 Jews, 12000 from each tribe will come to acknowledge Christ as Lord.  There will be horrible desolation, as the Anti-Christ takes over with increasing power.  Pride and the abomination of one man’s desire for power will become evident.  There will be horrible terrors as this plays forth both with natural disasters and the worse horrors man can perpetrate on other men.

Then, when all has reached its very worse, Christ will return.  Satan and all his demons will be chained.  Jesus will set up His Kingdom on earth for 1000-year reign.  At the end of this His millennial reign on earth, Satan will be loosed to gather together all those who still choose to deny Christ as Lord before His final destruction.  The Great White Throne Judgement will occur in which all those who have denied Christ will be thrown into the lake of Fire.    As revelations closes, there will be a new heaven and a new earth established for eternity.

So Why is This Really Good?

Given all the horrors of the seven years of tribulation. How can  the 70th week of Daniel’s prophecy be really good?  Because what ultimately arrives is the completion, the end of evil. Let’s go back and look at Daniel.

All the sorrows, the struggles, and the pains will be gone.  Christ will be established, anointed as King of Kings, Lord of Lords.  Everything evil that men and women have created throughout the ages due to their self-exaltation will be done, over.  Choice was given that we might see all the attributes of God and desire them above all else.

If it is a cross that brings me closer to Him, with all His love, then it is a cross I long for.  It is not about today, it is all about eternity with Him.  As Paul wrote, I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God (Romans 8:18-19).
