Give Me a Faith
By Effie Darlene Barba
Give me a faith that works for you Lord
A Beacon through the night
That shines forth your Glory
Revealing you’re my delight
Give me a faith that stands firm against
The howling of the wind
When storms of life surround me
Your strength I can depend
Give me a faith that says I’ll follow
And chase away the fear
Because I know you love me
And you are always near
Give me a faith that makes me willing
To go where you may send
Standing firm within your word
Your truth I will defend.
Give me a faith that will rely on
The Promise in your word
To freely give my life, my wealth
Beyond the tithe I’d heard
Give me a faith that will rise above
This weary, lonely heart
To sing a joyous song of Praise
Your hope to all impart
Give me a faith that says I trust You
In all I say and do
That everyone I meet today
Might see a glimpse of You
Even our faith is a gift of Grace. How often in my life (and I daresay yours if you were honest) would I, like the father described in Mark 9 have to cry out that God help my unbelief to be transformed into unwavering faith? Mark 9:”23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” Faith is not blindly looking, never seeing the danger. Faith is staring the dangers, perils, and sorrows straight in the face while still marching forward where God commanded, in the manner He commanded and knowing that God has a perfect plan of love in the midst of it all. It is knowing that He provides the strength, the hope, the joy and the peace that is His Essence in the midst of the darkest valleys. It is knowing that the greatest mountaintop experiences with God are found in those dark valleys. It is knowing He is the greatest treasure and that each valley only draws my wayward heart closer to Him. It is knowing the height, the depth, and the width of His Love for me so that I might rest in His arms of love as He sings His joyous lullaby of love over me. (Zephaniah 3:17)
