Do you willingly, joyfully give to the Lord? Do you give to Him your tithe with a heart of joy, knowing that He is your provider or do you do it out of a sense of fear and duty? Do you look to him and proclaim, "thine is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty?" This is truly an issue of the heart. What about your time? I truly believe that we should at minimum give God 10% of our time with Him in Bible Study, prayer, service to God and praise. When you see someone hungry would you give them your lunch? Look at this scripture.
1 Chronicles 29: 9 Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.
10 Wherefore David blessed the Lord before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.
11 Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.
12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.
14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
So why should we be joyful givers of our time and our money?
1. Because we love God as our greatest Treasure. Luke 12: "34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
2. Because we understand with gratitude His Sovereignty and recognize that all that we have is His and provided by Him. Look at verse 14 above.
3. Because we trust Him to provide all that we need. Psalm 37:"3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."
4. Because when we give sacrificially, we give opportunity for God to display His Glory to the world.
Psalm 50: "14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me."
5. Because of the good of the Kingdom. It may be your gift of prayer, service and money that leads to the salvation of one soul. Is there any sacrifice too great for the eternal salvation of one soul? Please watch this video I found of a song written and sung by Ray Boltz. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7biTMChHOBM
