3 FOUNDATIONS PROMISING JOY, HOPE, AND VICTORY

Whatever trials, sorrows or temptations you face in this life; I can assure you of this: knowing these three foundations of truth with hold your heart steady, filling you with hope, joy, peace, and strength to live victoriously.  Over the course of the last few months; I have written about these three truth foundations upon which you can securely build your life.  Beyond just knowing in your mind; these truths must be indelibly written upon your heart; in order to transform your life.  Because we need to know these truths, often, our life’s journey takes us through dark and treacherous valleys; leading us to God’s truth and light.  Patiently preparing and equipping us with His truth, God guides us each step of the way; because, He knows that we can only find true joy, peace, and hope in a close and intimate relationship with Him.

Knowing these three truths; building upon them as your foundation gives you the power to remain fearless, steadfast, and joy filled no matter what storms come your way in this life. First, know your place in this world; because, faith is knowing God IS (Supreme Creator, Sovereign Lord, the Being without which nothing else exists) and He rewards those who diligent seek Him. Second, you must realize your purpose in this world. God created you desiring to shower upon you His love, to fill you with His Joy, and to bestow upon you part of His Glory (though undeserving you may be).  Thirdly, you must know your position in Christ Jesus; held firm by the power of His resurrection; endowing you with the power to live victoriously.

WISDOM WRITTEN ON YOUR HEART

How to Face Trials with Strength, Hope and Joy

Living life, fully knowing my position in Christ; changes how I view everything else!  This journey remains filled with trials, tribulations, storms, and often, periods of agonizing loneliness with feelings of rejection.  Jesus warned us of that very truth, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33).  Be of good cheer, in Christ Jesus we have everything that we need to know peace in the center of chaos, joy when sorrow surrounds us, and love when the world hates us.  Knowing my position in Christ Jesus, held firm by God’s Mighty Right Hand of Righteousness; gives me the strength to face every obstacle in this life with joy, hope, and faith.

God’s promises hold fast that “all things work together for my good” (Romans 8:28) and that His plans for me are good.  (Jeremiah 29:11).  You see, when you really know these truths; when they are written on your heart with God’s indelible ink; then, you begin to see every trial as a gracious gift from God’s hands of love.  Trials pull us closer to Him, tribulations stretch our faith forcing our roots to dig deeper into the foundations of His truth, or they force us to turn around when we have wandered down the wrong road.

Whichever it may be; the sorrows of this world are but stepping stones to His Glory.  Nothing that my feeble hands can do could bring me closer to His Glory; yet, in the strength and power of Jesus Christ, through the work of the Holy Spirit in me; I can do all things. (Philippians 4:13)

ONLY TRUE SOURCE OF HOPE WHEN FACING TRIALS AND TEMPTATIONS

Jesus Christ, in you; the hope of Glory.  Without Him and His redemptive work on Calvary; we would have no hope of Glory; nor would we be able to stand victorious against the chains of sin in our own hearts.

Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly…That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:1-6,21

My only hope of winning the war against sin in my own heart comes by first accepting the atoning gift of salvation purchased on the cross by Jesus Christ. Then, God begins the work or purifying my heart.  Cloaked in the righteousness of Jesus Christ, I stand before His Throne of Grace.  Yet, God doesn’t stop there; as He sets forth the arduous task of burning away whatever chaff remains.  Furthermore, step by step; He rips from my hands the counterfeit joys my human heart clings to; until, one day I will look like Jesus. Not by my own strength; but, by the strength of God Almighty

THE STRENGTH TO OVERCOME TRIALS AND TEMPTATIONS

In our own power; we cannot overcome.  Yet, be of good cheer; Jesus Christ overcame and won the victory.  He indwells us with the Holy Spirit and sits on the right hand of the Father ever making intercession for us. (Romans 8:34)

Jesus said,

Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. John 15:4-5

There can be no righteousness, apart from Jesus Christ abiding in us.  In Christ Jesus, we claim our position as the redeemed, beloved, blessed, chosen children of God, heirs of the kingdom, servant by choice, whom God declares to be Saints.  Without Jesus Christ, we remain condemned for all of eternity; because we chose to not believe on the name of Jesus Christ.  All who fail to proclaim Him as the only begotten Son of God who died for their sins; will perish; because they did not believe the truth of the gospel.  “ Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14: 6

THE STRENGTH TO OVERCOME SIN

The only strength to overcome the power of sin comes through the strength given me by Jesus Christ.  All who abide in Christ Jesus, will bring forth the fruit of the Spirit.  If you do not see any transformation of your own heart; then, my question would be “did you ever really accept Jesus Christ as your Savior?”  On the other hand, if you find yourself struggling with sin and you know for certain that Jesus Christ is Your Lord and Savior; run to the cross of Jesus Christ, asking Him for the victory to overcome.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand. Psalm 37:23-24

THE ABIDING, EVERLASTING JOY

Our true joy never comes from the trivialities and desires of this world; because, the only true source of joy comes from an intimate relationship with our Creator.  Therefore, the joy found in Christ Jesus abides in our hearts; flowing forth like a fountain of spring water even when everything around us looks barren.

When God Declares You a Saint, are you?

As a young Christian, I worked very hard to be pleasing to God. I so wanted to earn His love; much like Peter who boasted of his own devotion.  Declaring one’s love for Christ, striving to do the good and righteous things; in and of itself, doesn’t represent anything bad.  In fact, we should seek after that which is righteous and good.  The problem arises when our self-exalting heart draws aside to pride filled thoughts.  Just as Peter declared he would NEVER betray Christ, I, too declared my devotion.  Somewhat, like this: “God aren’t you proud of me I would Never!”  That came right before I plunged headlong into sin; while, loudly protesting all the way, I would NEVER!  Yet, we are declared to be Saints by God Himself.  What could He possibly mean? And how can I behave like a Saint?

This position in Christ as Saint; at first, runs counter to everything else we have been told. Yet, our understanding the truth and holding it tightly in our hearts, remains essential to our living out the life God wills for us.  When I very loudly proclaim, “I am but a sinner, saved by grace;” I risk accepting my sin.  The truth of my inability to transform myself remains absolutely true; however, by grace, God promises to transform me from the inside out.  When I focus on myself; including my inabilities, I allow thoughts of self and ultimately pride to take reign within my mind. Instead, when I focus on God’s work in me, transformation of my heart occurs; thereby, I become who God declares me to be rather than who I work toward being.

Where is God When Terror Strikes and Evil Abounds?

The question arises in the hearts of people around the world when evil atrocities continue to occur, “Where is God When Terror Strikes and Evil Abounds?”  We feel the horror of the attacks in Paris, England, and those we witnessed in San Bernardino, Orlando, and New York.  Yet, those remain only the tip of the iceberg compared to all the attacks perpetrated by radical hatred.  Yes, Evil Abounds throughout our world leading to terrorist strikes, violent protests, anger, hatred, and fear.  So, once more we ask where is God when terror Strikes and Evil Abounds?

Was this not also the cry of Habakkuk in Chapter 1?

How long, O Lord, must I call for help?
    But you do not listen!
“Violence is everywhere!” I cry,
but you do not come to save…
Wherever I look,
    I see destruction and violence.
I am surrounded by people
who love to argue and fight.
 The law has become paralyzed,
and there is no justice in the courts.
The wicked far outnumber the righteous,
so that justice has become perverted. (Verses 2-4 NLT)

TERROR STRUCK AND EVIL SURROUNDED

Because Israel had turned to worshiping idols, ignored God’s laws while seeking self aggrandizing pleasures, and literally abandoned their faith; God allowed an evil nation to rise up against them.  God did so to awaken His people to open their eyes before they would self destruct; because of their own sin.  God’s response?

He tells Habakkuk throughout chapter two of days to come and instructs him to be patient; because, God will fulfill all that He has purposed.  One day, “the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord.”  One day, God’s justice will reign upon the earth in perfect righteousness.  Furthermore, evil and terror will reign no more; because, God will cast Satan and all his followers into eternal damnation.  Who are Satan’s followers? All those who chose selfish exaltation over God’s gracious gift of salvation through His son, Jesus Christ.

WHY NOT NOW?

God hold’s His mighty hand of Justice steady; awaiting one more person to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior; because,  He loves that person so much!  He endures the evil, the angry self exalting people who malign His name and those who even perpetrate heinous terror while falsely proclaiming His Name in vain.

Vengeance is Mine, and recompense;
Their foot shall slip in due time;
For the day of their calamity is at hand,
And the things to come hasten upon them. Deuteronomy 32: 35

Oh, Lord we cry out: “Why not now Lord?” Paul gives us the clue to that response; reminding us of the response already given.

What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much long suffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,  and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory,  even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

So, the question becomes: which will you be? A vessel of wrath choosing to refuse His Grace, His Love, and His Gift of Salvation or will you bow humbly before Almighty God, seeking His Will, desiring His presence in your life.  In order for you or I to fully grasp the fullness of His Glory, the splendor of His righteousness, the might of His Just Sovereign rule; we needed to understand evil as well.  I wrote this poem a while back and hope you find some comfort in its truths.

WHEN TERROR STRIKES

by Effie Darlene Barba

When terror strikes from every side

Inciting fear in every heart

When all I see is torn apart

How can I Lord in You abide?

And rest in peace upon they word

With all the hate and sorrow heard

From wretched men, so filled with pride

I need a place in which to hide

I turn and lift my eyes toward You

To search the dark, to understand

How can this be as You have planned?

When all the world seems so askew

By evil hearts so filled with sin

It’s hard to see Your love will win

When selfish hearts themselves pursue

Destruction, death and pain ensue

As I gazed there shone forth a light

And reaching forth a steady hand

That held at bay hell’s death command

With sovereign power and such might

It is Grace alone that bids you wait

While justice bids man’s final fate

That one more broken heart contrite

With blinded eyes to then find sight

Oh, Lord, please help me understand

That the same love that bore the cross

Is Your love for us when we face loss

That Grace holds firm Your Mighty hand

That every kindness we have known

Is proof Your grace for us is shown

For Justice would itself demand

That darkness, death consume our land

So, help me Lord to be a light

To spread your word where e’er I go

Your love, your hope, your joy to show

Your gospel truth to then take flight

Transforming hearts that one by one

They seek and find your precious son

That then your Glory shine so bright

Beams of Grace in the dark of night

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS

When terror and evil surrounds us; God cries forth to each living person who don’t know Him, “Come and drink from the fountain of eternal life; before it is too late.”  None of us know when our life will end; yet, we have this moment to choose who we will follow.  Furthermore, beyond His calling the sinners to repentance; He is also calling His Followers to exam their own lives, bow in repentance and seek His will through prayer. Therefore, as for me and my house, I choose to follow Jesus; while remaining in steadfast prayer for our nation and our world.  As Habakkuk proclaimed:

I will wait quietly for the coming day
when disaster will strike the people who invade us.
Even though the fig trees have no blossoms,
    and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
    and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
The Sovereign Lord is my strength!
He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
able to tread upon the heights.

Habakkuk 3: 16-19 (NLT)

When Royalty Chooses to Be a Servant, What Then?

It seems beyond our imagination when Royalty or the rich would lay aside their elite status and risk everything to serve others. Yet, precisely that is what Jesus did!  He left the splendor of heaven where He remained ever in the presence of His Father, to take on human flesh that He might be the everlasting sacrifice for our sins.  Jesus faced temptation in this human body. He faced ridicule, hatred, false accusations, pain, and death upon the cross; so that, we might be saved from our sinful state.  Because of His willingness to become a servant, we gain the right to be called Children of God; taking part as Royal heirs of His kingdom.  Because the Ultimate Royalty chose to be a servant, we the guilty, forsaken sinner gain access to royalty. Think on that!

Furthermore, consider this!  Since Jesus Christ chose to set aside His Royal position for a time to walk among us; how much more should we willingly, humbly serve others while awaiting our position of royalty with Him?  In Christ, we already hold that position; yet, a little while we will stand within His palace before His throne; where we will behold Him face to face.  Until that day, I choose servanthood; because, empowered by the truth of my position of royalty, no longer do I feel the victimhood of my own impoverished state.  The power to live with less now or to lay aside the desires for earthly things; comes from knowing the truth.

LAYING ASIDE ROYALTY; BECAUSE OF KNOWING
