It was certainly chaotic times when Isaiah wrote the words God gave him to write. He knew that the people were not even going to listen. Therefore, he knew judgement was coming. But that did not deter him, because he was commissioned by God to continue to speak to the remnant. For through them, the brightest shining hope would one day emerge. The Messiah, Jeshua would be born of a virgin. He would face every temptation of humanity; yet remain fully obedient to the Father’s will. Rejected by the very ones He came to save, He would die on the cross, bearing the full weight of God’s wrath against sin. He would rise again from the grave, that all who believe in Him might know and have perfect peace with God.
It is our sin filled nature that separates us from the only true source of peace. People are incapable of truly laying aside their humanistic pride. This inborn ideology that we are the center of our universe. What I feel must be more important than anything else! Afterall I must pursue joy above all else! What other purpose must there be? Yet, in our foolishness, we cannot see that the only true source of joy is a harmonious relationship with our creator. Only in Him can we find perfect peace even in chaotic times such as now. We foolishly chase after power, sensuous pleasures, and self-exaltation only to find those to add to our separation from God and separation from the joy and peace we desire. Never enough! They are never enough!
Can a Nation Find Perfect Peace in Chaotic Times?
That was the cry and the prayer of Isaiah. The pleading call of God to the nation,
“Open the gates, that the righteous nation which [a]keeps the truth may enter in.” Isaiah 26:2 (NKJV)
Where is there truth? In a society that has so embraced relativism, where is there truth to be found? Jesus Christ is “the way, the truth, and the life”. The very one, the corner stone that we wish to cast aside. He is THE TRUTH. We cast Him from our schools, and we wonder what has happened to our youth.
3 You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.
4 Trust in the Lord forever,
For in Yah, the Lord, is [b]everlasting strength. Isaiah 26 (NKJV)
So, where is perfect peace when evil surrounds?
We who know Him rest in the truth, that He will bring justice and judgement to light. Therefore, we trust Him. He alone can bring light out of darkness with one breath. So, we keep our eyes focused on Him. We proclaim the truth of the gospel to everyone we meet. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whomsoever believeth in Him hath eternal life” (John 3:16). Then we in perfect peace, rest in Him to accomplish all that He has planned. He will not force His love upon anyone; but stands with open arms to all who will come. And to all who reject Him, hell bent by their own foolish pride, we know His promise is.
5 He brings [c]down those who dwell on high,
The lofty city;
He lays it low,
God lays it low to the ground,
He brings it down to the dust.
6 The foot shall [d]tread it down—
The feet of the poor
And the steps of the needy.” Isaiah 26 (NKJV)
And for those of us who believe in him?
We are the justified! The redeemed can rest in perfect peace because He hath clothed us with His righteousness. We are forgiven, redeemed by the blood of the lamb! Therefore, we seek Him in the early morning and our soul desires Him alone in the night. No matter how chaotic things may seem, we have perfect peace because we see Him. He is the Sovereign King and He brings perfect peace to our soul.
7 The way of the just is uprightness;
O Most Upright,
You [e]weigh the path of the just.
8 Yes, in the way of Your judgments,
O Lord, we have waited for You;
The desire of our soul is for Your name
And for the remembrance of You.
9 With my soul I have desired You in the night,
Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early;
For when Your judgments are in the earth,
The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
Therefore, even if no one listens, we keep telling them of God’s mercy, love, grace and perfect peace to all who will proclaim the name of Jesus as Savior and Lord.
10 Let grace be shown to the wicked,
Yet he will not learn righteousness;
In the land of uprightness he will deal unjustly,
And will not behold the majesty of the Lord.
11 Lord, when Your hand is lifted up, they will not see.
But they will see and be ashamed
For [f]their envy of people;
Yes, the fire of Your enemies shall devour them.
12 Lord, You will establish peace for us,
For You have also done all our works [g]in us.
How to Find Perfect Peace in Chaotic Times?
By resting and trusting in Him, the Prince of Peace. Proclaiming His name to the world, unafraid of what others may do to us. He is our rock and our fortress. He is our perfect peace and our joy, forever more.
