Faithful Remnant

Faithful Remnant: Why are the Righteous Absolutely Victorious?

There has not been any time in history since the creation that God did not preserve a remnant of His faithful.  His promise?  These are the ones who will be absolutely victorious.  He has promised this on His own name.  It is that which is being presented by Isaiah.  There will be remnant of the faithful Jews who will one day form the new Jerusalem under the rulership of Jesus Christ.  That is yet to come.  It is true today of the church, the bride of Christ.  A faithful remnant will continue victorious regardless of how dark the world around may seem.  No acts of terror can rip us from His hands.  The very worst they can do is send us into His arms.

 But what about our nation?  Could it be on the verge of judgement?  Or is the faithful remnant holding back the wrath of God for the moment?  But for how long?  Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of 9/11.  Many do not remember.  However, that day brought a nation to its knees and rebuilt a sense of nationalism.  Yet, the news would make us believe that all that is lost.  By glamorizing the anti-American and anti-God sentiment they add to a sense of despair.  Ours was a nation and constitution built on Christian Ideologies; but, will this be lost?  Yet, be certain a Faith Remnant of Righteous will be Absolutely Victorious as God Said.  He is Sovereign over the affairs of mankind.

Woe to The Leaders Who Choose Wrath

Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees,

    and the writers who keep writing oppression,

to turn aside the needy from justice

    and to rob the poor of my people of their right,

that widows may be their spoil,

    and that they may make the fatherless their prey!

What will you do on the day of punishment,

    in the ruin that will come from afar?

To whom will you flee for help,

    and where will you leave your wealth?

Nothing remains but to crouch among the prisoners

    or fall among the slain.

For all this his anger has not turned away,

    and his hand is stretched out still.  Isaiah 10:1-4 ESV

God had warned them repeatedly; yet the evil decrees continued.  They oppressed the people needlessly.  No heart or love for God nor His people.  They called themselves His; but, lived idolatrous, evil lives.  Much as we see today as well.

God is Sovereign and He is Just

Woe to Assyria, the rod of my anger;

    the staff in their hands is my fury!

Against a godless nation I send him,

    and against the people of my wrath I command him,

to take spoil and seize plunder,

    and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

But he does not so intend,

    and his heart does not so think;

but it is in his heart to destroy,

    and to cut off nations not a few;

for he says:

“Are not my commanders all kings?

Is not Calno like Carchemish?

    Is not Hamath like Arpad?

    Is not Samaria like Damascus?

As my hand has reached to the kingdoms of the idols,

    whose carved images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria,

shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols

    as I have done to Samaria and her images?”  Isaiah 10: 5-11 ESV

It was Syria and Assyria whom the kings of Israel and Judah sought after their idols.  Yet God used Assyria to punish His people.  He is Sovereign over all the kings, rulers, and people of the world.  No one can step further than His hand doth reach.  So, why would He allow such a thing as 9/11 to occur.  Only He knows the good that came because of such an awful event.   Those who were saved as a result.  The nationalism that arose.  How much did that event affect a generation of young people preparing them for the tremendous messages of  Charlie Kirk on the campuses.  A resurgence of faith and national pride that endured for a generation.

But what about now?  How quickly do we forget.  Much like the nation of Israel, we have short memories when all is well.

Although He May Use Assyrria:  They Will Also Face Judgement

When the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, hewill punish the speech[b] of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the boastful look in his eyes. For he says:

“By the strength of my hand I have done it,

    and by my wisdom, for I have understanding;

I remove the boundaries of peoples,

    and plunder their treasures;

    like a bull I bring down those who sit on thrones.

My hand has found like a nest

    the wealth of the peoples;

and as one gathers eggs that have been forsaken,

    so I have gathered all the earth;

and there was none that moved a wing

    or opened the mouth or chirped.”

Shall the axe boast over him who hews with it,

    or the saw magnify itself against him who wields it?

As if a rod should wield him who lifts it,

    or as if a staff should lift him who is not wood!

Therefore the Lord God of hosts

    will send wasting sickness among his stout warriors,

and under his glory a burning will be kindled,

    like the burning of fire.

The light of Israel will become a fire,

    and his Holy One a flame,

and it will burn and devour

    his thorns and briers in one day.

The glory of his forest and of his fruitful land

    the Lord will destroy, both soul and body,

    and it will be as when a sick man wastes away.

The remnant of the trees of his forest will be so few

    that a child can write them down.  Isaiah 10: 12-19 ESV

God uses whomever He desires and still they face the full judgment for having not turned to Him or recognizing He gave them the power.  His hand reached out in both Wrath and Mercy.  In their prideful state, they chose wrath rather than to submit to Him.  So, wanting to say they were powerful ones in their own strength.

The Faithful Remnant of Isaiah’s Day

In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean on him who struck them, but will lean on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.  A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness.  For the Lord God of hosts will make a full end, as decreed, in the midst of all the earth.  Isaiah 10: 20-23  ESV

He will decree the destruction of all evil and make a full end one day.  That will be after the great White Throne Judgement.  There will be a New Heaven and a New Earth.  And yes, a new Jerusalem.  God’s chosen people Israel will be a part of this.

 Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts: “O my people, who dwell in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrians when they strike with the rod and lift up their staff against you as the Egyptians did.  For in a very little while my fury will come to an end, and my anger will be directed to their destruction. And the Lord of hosts will wield against them a whip, as when he struck Midian at the rock of Oreb. And his staff will be over the sea, and he will lift it as he did in Egypt.  And in that day his burden will depart from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be broken because of the fat.”  Isaiah 10: 24-27 ESV

Do not be afraid, you my faithful remnant.  For in the ultimate end the righteous will be absolutely victorious.

The End is certain

He has come to Aiath;

he has passed through Migron;

    at Michmash he stores his baggage;

they have crossed over the pass;

    at Geba they lodge for the night;

Ramah trembles;

    Gibeah of Saul has fled.

Cry aloud, O daughter of Gallim!

    Give attention, O Laishah!

    O poor Anathoth!

Madmenah is in flight;

    the inhabitants of Gebim flee for safety.

This very day he will halt at Nob;

    he will shake his fist

    at the mount of the daughter of Zion,

    the hill of Jerusalem.

Behold, the Lord God of hosts

    will lop the boughs with terrifying power;

the great in height will be hewn down,

    and the lofty will be brought low.

He will cut down the thickets of the forest with an axe,

    and Lebanon will fall by the Majestic One.

Jesus is Coming, this is certain.

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,

    and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.

And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,

    the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

Spirit of counsel and might,

    the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.

He shall not judge by what his eyes see,

    or decide disputes by what his ears hear,

but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,

    and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;

he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,

    and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.

Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,

    and faithfulness the belt of his loins. Isaiah 11:1-5 ESV

Wow!  Close Your Eyes and Imagine Him in His Glory Reigning

The wolf shall dwell with the lamb,

    and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,

the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together;

    and a little child shall lead them.

The cow and the bear shall graze;

    their young shall lie down together;

    and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra,

    and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den.

They shall not hurt or destroy

    in all my holy mountain;

for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord

    as the waters cover the sea.

Then the faithful remnant, the Righteous will be Absolutely Victorious

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,

    and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.

And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,

    the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

    Spirit of counsel and might,

    the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.

He shall not judge by what his eyes see,

    or decide disputes by what his ears hear,

but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,

    and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;

he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,

    and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.

Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,

    and faithfulness the belt of his loins.

The wolf shall dwell with the lamb,

    and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,

the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together;

    and a little child shall lead them.

The cow and the bear shall graze;

    their young shall lie down together;

    and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra,

    and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den.

They shall not hurt or destroy

    in all my holy mountain;

for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord

    as the waters cover the sea. Isaiah 11:6-9 ESV

This describes the Millennial Reign of Christ.

The faithful remnant will be called forth to be near Him.

In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush,from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea.

He will raise a signal for the nations

    and will assemble the banished of Israel,

and gather the dispersed of Judah

    from the four corners of the earth.

The jealousy of Ephraim shall depart,

    and those who harass Judah shall be cut off;

Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah,

    and Judah shall not harass Ephraim.

But they shall swoop down on the shoulder of the Philistines in the west,

    and together they shall plunder the people of the east.

They shall put out their hand against Edom and Moab,

    and the Ammonites shall obey them.

And the Lord will utterly destroy

    the tongue of the Sea of Egypt,

and will wave his hand over the River

    with his scorching breath

and strike it into seven channels,

    and he will lead people across in sandals.

And there will be a highway from Assyria

    for the remnant that remains of his people,

as there was for Israel

    when they came up from the land of Egypt.  Isaiah 11: 11-16 ESV

Concluding Thoughts:

Are you part of the faithful remnant for this the church age? Do you know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life? Is your heart bent toward His mission to proclaim His Truth to all you meet? Are You clinging to the truth of your victory? It is His promise. As a reminder, this is a poem I wrote about September 11, 2001. But it remains true today. What will you do if terror strikes.

Song For Revival

A Revival Prayer When Terror Strikes

By Effie Darlene Barba

When terror strikes and fear remains

Tears and blood their mingled stains

That tell a tale of horror’s pains

A Broken world so filled with sin

Rejecting God man’s heart within

Held tight by pride-those wretched chains

And from the terror hate and lies

That covers all-a dark disguise

To hide the truth and blind our eyes

Man shakes his fist, shouting at God

Whose Grace beneath man’s feet was trod

Ignoring He who could make wise

Chorus 1

Oh, Lord I bid you hear the pleas

Of all your saints upon their knees

Let our sweet song your wrath appease

Give us the words to then proclaim

With love and truth your Holy Name

Revival then our nation seize

If only they could see Your Face

So filled with love and hope and Grace

Your son who died to take our place

To pay the price that just demand

Before your throne we now may stand

Redeemed, Beloved in Your Embrace

Oh, teach me Lord what words to say

That through my life, You point the way

For others then to come and pray

To find in You the only thing

That then could bid their hearts to sing

Oh, come dear Lord and don’t delay

Bridge

Awaken Lord this heart of mine

To understand Your will divine

Allow Your light of truth to shine

Within my heart, held steady still

Humbly broken then to spill

Forth your love so rich and fine

Give me Your strength to stand the test

Proclaim Your Name to all the rest

No fear or shame to then attest

That Jesus Christ Your precious son

Has Conquered death, the victory won

No other way can man be blessed

And fall before Your Throne of Grace

Humbled, broken to seek your face

Stony hearts of pride You replace

With gentle hearts that seek to find

Your righteousness to fill their mind

Their sin and guilt you will erase

Chorus:

Oh, Lord I bid you hear the pleas

Of all your saints upon their knees

Let our sweet song your wrath appease

Give us the words to then proclaim

With love and truth your Holy Name

Revival then our nation seize
