How to Really Know God has a Plan of Salvation for You!

Last week in Romans 9, Paul doubled down on the Sovereignty of God.  As now we move to Romans 10. He speaks of salvation by faith. That is to all who with their heart: believe, repent, and confess Jesus Christ as the only way of salvation.  Can both the Sovereignty of God and the freedom of humans be equally true? And if so, how can you know God has a plan of salvation for you?  What if you are not one of the chosen ones given to Christ by the Father?  But then Paul did write,

“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):  that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.  For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  Romans 10:8-13 NKJV

This righteousness is one that does not come from human effort.  It is the gift of Christ to all who calls on the name of Christ believing that He is the only way of salvation.  Knowing by faith that He is the Son of God, who died on the cross, and was raised again.  All the truths of God are beyond our comprehension.  Yet, we can KNOW they are true. That is by faith. A faith that is supernaturally charged.

How to Really Know God

So many things about God are a mystery to our finite minds.   We are merely creatures, and He is the creator of it all.  How can we ever truly hope to understand Him and His plan? Often, we want to question His plan.  As did Job, Elijah, and Habakkuk?  As though He needed to explain to us every why or how?

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”  Deuteronomy 29:29 (NKJV)

Can the creature truly say to the Creator, “Why have you done this?”  Or does faith mean we fully believe He is Sovereign? And that He truly rewards those who diligently seek Him?   That is what Hebrews 11:6 says!

What was the context in which Moses spoke these words to the people?  He was reminding them of this truth. The only absolute was to not turn their eyes away from God as Lord and Master.  Moses was pointing out. All who looked to self-righteousness or to any idols of any kind would become as Sodom and Gomorrah did.  Moreover, he told them that they would be exiled from their land and endure many hardships.   If they turned their back on looking to God alone for salvation.

Paul Speaking to the Nation of Israel

Now Paul, is reminding the nation of Israel that God does not desire self-righteous zeal . Why? Because self righteous zeal denies the truth of the gospel.  The people wanted to believe they were righteous through the law itself.  They had a zeal for God, but without true knowledge.  So how can any of you know God has a plan of salvation for you if zeal is not enough?

Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.  For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.  For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.  Romans 10:1-4 NKJV

How did Paul even dare to address the nation of Israel thus?  Did he not know they had been given the law of God? Of course he did.  He had been among the most zealous of all!

For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.  But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.    Philippians 3: 3 –7 (KJV).

He was caught in the same blindness as them. That is until that day on the road to Damascus. Jesus called out his name after being physically blinded by the brilliant light of God as recorded in Acts 9:1-9.

God obviously had a plan of salvation for Paul. But how can you know if God has a plan of salvation for you?

Regarding His Conversion, Paul wrote:

For I would have you know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel which was preached by me is not of human invention.  For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.

For you have heard of my former way of life in Judaism, how I used to persecute the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it;  and I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries among my countrymen, being more extremely zealous for my ancestral traditions.  But when He who had set me apart even from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace was pleased to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentile   Galatians 1:11-16 NASB

Paul is here very specifically noting that he was chosen before he was ever aware.  Again, pointing to predestination and election.  Why does the Bible do this?  One minute says one and another moment points to choosing.

This week I do believe I heard one of the best sermons on this from the John McArthur

John MacArthur: Does the Doctrine of the Divine Decrees Eliminate Human Will?

In this video, he began with Isaiah and moved to what Jesus said in John 3, then Paul.  In each scripture, it includes the truth of Divine Decree and humanity’s culpability.  His conclusion is: there is no human explanation for both being true.  But that God was quite comfortable placing within the same passages both as truth, side by side.  So, the conclusion is: we trust the wisdom and sovereignty of God being much more than we can understand.  So, as we work through some of these scriptures, the question comes to mind, again.  How do you know that God has a plan of salvation for you?  Well hold on and do not check out yet.

A Look into What Jesus Said about Salvation

There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”  Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”  John 3:1-4 (NKJV)>

Obviously, there is no way that a person can put themselves again into their mother’s womb.  None of us have anything to do with our own original birth either.  So, if we have nothing to do with our physical birth. Do we have anything to do with our spiritual birth?

Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’   The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”  John 3:5-8 (NKJV)

Jesus’ point was that just as the wind cannot be controlled or understood by human beings, but its effects can be witnessed, so also it is with the Holy Spirit. He cannot be controlled or understood, but the proof of His work is apparent. Where the Spirit works, there is undeniable and unmistakable evidence.1 MacArthur, John; NASB MacArthur Study Bible, 2nd Edition Copyright © 1997, 2006, 2019 by Thomas Nelson., noted on page 2169

Then, Salvation by Grace, Looking Upon the Messiah, Jesus Christ in Faith

Jesus then reminds Nicodemus that even the Old Testament was Salvation through faith, as it had been when Moses lifted the serpent in the Wilderness.  All the people had to do was look at it believing they would be saved.  Look! That was freedom of choice. This was an Old Testament reference that Jesus would die and not the only one.  Daniel also spoke of the Messiah being cut off at the end of 69 weeks.  There is the one week remaining for the cleansing of Israel as a nation and that is the tribulation.  All that is in Daniel 9.  Also, Isaiah spoke extensively about Jesus taking all the punishment.  Even in the Old Testament, Salvation was by faith, looking forward to the Messiah’s payment of sin.  No one kept the law perfectly.  Not even God’s chosen Old Testament Saints.

even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.  But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”  John 3:14-21 (NKJV)

Do I need to know how Divine Appointment through Predestination and election are true? Or how humanity’s absolute culpability for denying Christ is also true?  Nope.  No more than I need to understand how He created the heavens and the earth and holds it all together. All that is beyond me.  But I do know how He transforms my life, day by day.  And how He can calm my Spirit when in dismay.  I watch His magnificent power transform my life, my heart, and my thoughts.  The miracles I see around me are enough to trust Him in everything.

An Example Today in my life.

I went to the open market today. Normally, I carry a small change purse . Today, it had around 500 pesos in it.  I do that so that I do not have to get out my billfold with all my ID’s, cards, etc. Well at one point, I got it out to buy “nopales”. Then, I must have dropped it as I put the nopales in a carrying bag I had with me.  I walked maybe 1 foot to another market stand. Then I realized it was missing.

Immediately, I looked back and did not see it anywhere behind me.  Therefore, it must have been picked up by someone who saw it fall from my hands. They did not say anything to me.  My first thought, after searching frantically, was to think it was a condemnation from God. Maybe for something I had thought or done. I racked my brain, to search for something to repent of. Back to legalism I fell so quickly!

But God Reminded me.

I know the truth about Salvation being an act of pure grace.  Understanding His Sovereign Divine will being at play.  And also knowing “there is therefore now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus”(Rom 8:1), I had to rethink.  I still prayed for repentance of any sins, known or unknown.   Then, suddenly, I realized maybe He was going to use that act by the other. How? to do a work in their life. Or perhaps it was for me. Can I question God?  After all, in the scheme of things it was about 30 US dollars.

Still, it reminded me of who I am in Jesus Christ.  His chosen, redeemed, blessed, beloved, bride to be.  The Daughter of the Most High God.   Nothing happens to me outside His Will.  And that was a reminder I really needed. So, harsh I can be on me. So, quick to judge myself.   Lately, my cause of concern or sadness.

So, back to the question I began with.

How do you really know God has a plan of salvation for you?  Well, you are still here reading for some reason.  If you are being drawn to Him, why not respond now to His Spirit calling you?

Does it matter if we witness and spread the Gospel if Election is True?

Absolutely, in part because Jesus commanded us to.

“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.  Mark 16: 15 NKJV

Then, Paul explains it has always been the case that God uses men.  As the Holy Spirits guides him to write, Paul even uses quotes from Old Testament Prophets.

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?

As it is written:

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?”

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed:

“Their sound has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world.”   Romans 10:14-18 NKJV

God does not need me to spread the gospel or to bring the message of salvation to anyone.  It is His grace alone that allows me the privilege to be a part of His most glorious work.  In such He shares a piece of His glory with me.

Why Do I say that?

In John 17, as Jesus prayed for each of us, He said:

“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:  I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

“Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.  O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”  John 17: 20-26

Is that even more amazing!  Knowing what agony He would face.  Recognizing He was going to be receiving all the wrath of God I justly deserved.  He prayed for me.  He asked to share His glory with me.  How else can He share His most Glorious work with me? He does so by allowing me to be a part of His salvation story with others?

He has declared His love for me, forever.  That I should experience the depth of love God holds for Him, the only Begotten son of God.  It is more than I can fully grasp; but, it is what He is offering you today. Do you feel the spirit drawing you? Then you can know with certainty that God has a plan of salvation for you.  Do not delay!  Call upon His name today. Truly believing that Christ died for you and rose again to offer eternal life with Him to you.  Have you been born again? The first time to physical life. And then born by the Holy Spirit into eternal spiritual life.   If not, ask Him today while the spirit is calling you.

DO YOU KNOW CHRIST AS YOUR SAVIOR AND LORD? He is our only Hope in Life and Death! Our Joy is found in Him.

Therefore if you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord: I urge you today. Go to my page titled How to Be Saved by clicking on this link. There is nothing more important than this; because He is the way, the truth and the life. Therefore, I urge you to seek Him today.

Has God Really Forsaken His First Love, Israel His Chosen Nation?

Whenever we search around us, we see that all the perfections of this world are fading away.  But we know that God’s word is true and stands forever.  All that He has planned will be accomplished.   Now as we turn to chapter 9, Paul returns to speaking primarily to the nation of Israel. Whereas, he had been speaking to both Jew and Gentile up until now.  He without hearing knows of the multiplicity of questions the nation of Israel had.  After all he is an Israelite. His heart bleeds for them.  One question is “Has God Really Forsaken His First Love, Israel His Chosen Nation?”

The more I study of scripture, the more ferocious my appetite becomes to remain in His word.  As a recap before we move deeply into Chapter 9, let us remember what we have already studied. We have been studying Romans for a while.  The first 3 chapters outlined clearly the human state of sin.  We are depraved, enslaved to sin, dead spiritually with no hope apart from a Savior.  Chapters 4-5 outlined salvation by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ.  Then, sanctification was addressed in chapters 6-8.

Moving from Chapter 8 to 9 is a hard turn

A part of me wants to linger in chapter 8. There it begins with “There is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”.  It then tells us of the Holy Spirit praying for us when we don’t even know how to pray.  “All things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.”  Why?  Because whom He calls, He justifies.  Whom He justifies, He sanctifies.  And whom He sanctifies, glorifies.”  Amazing that one day, I will look like Christ when I stand before Him.  Ah, and how does chapter 8 end?  Nothing, absolutely nothing, not even I can separate me from the love of God in Christ Jesus.  No wonder I want to stay there.  Just bathe in the truths packed into those verses.  Chapter 9 takes a sudden turn, as Paul remembers many of His fellow Israelite deny Christ.

Did God Reject Israel, His Chosen Nation?

Paul does recognize that for a time, the nation of Israel has been blinded to the truth. Why? So the gentiles could be offered salvation.  It was not the first time God saved Gentiles.  There of course was Nineveh in the days of Jonah.  There was Ruth and Rahab.  Then there was Nebuchadnezzar.  He had even used Nebuchadnezzar punish Israel for her idolatry and “harlotry” against Him.  Then, He saw fit to save King Nebuchadnezzar.  The Jewish nation was to always have been a light to the world bringing others to God.  Instead, they chased the world.  But Paul is heartbroken for his people, just as Jesus had wept over them as well.

I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart.  For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh, who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises;  of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.  Romans 9:1-5 NKJV

Note how Paul lists all the blessings bestowed upon them from the beginning.  They were adopted by God as His nation.  He boundlessly provided for them.  He shed His glory upon them.  They were given the covenants, the law, the promises, as well as His abounding protection through the ages.  It was through the Israelite nation that Jesus was born in the flesh. So, what happened? And what now?

Were They Blessed Because They Are More Righteous?

No. He had called Abraham out of a land of idol worship.  God told Abraham to get away from his father’s household, but Abraham took Lot with him.  That became a problem.  Not only a problem with infighting among their servants, but Abraham was pulled into a war to save Lot.  And the descendants of Lot were the Moabites and the Ammonites who fought against the Israelites.  Furthermore, there was the problem that Abraham lied twice about Sarah being his sister instead of his wife.  Well, and there was Ishmael born of the handmaid.  He did become a great nation, having 12 sons.  Muhammed in the Karan does report himself as a direct descendant of Ishmael.

Yes, Abraham had faith in God which was counted to him for righteousness. But even that faith was given to Him by God and taught to Him throughout His life.  So, would God forsake Israel, His chosen nation?

But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel,  nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.”  That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.  For this is the word of promise: “At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.” Romans 9:6-9 NKJV

Paul begins an argument which is considered one of the strongest for God’s Sovereignty in choosing whom He will.  Not that they were any more worthy of choosing, but that He chose them.  This becomes more evident in the next verse.

So, Is Israel Still His Chosen Nation?  And what about Sovereign Election?

And not only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac (for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls), it was said to her, “The older shall serve the younger.” As it is written, “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.”  Romans 9:10-13.

Now, did God see through the corridors of time and believe Jacob was more righteous?  The heel-grabber who lied to his father and tricked his brother out of his birthright?  Jacob did not walk unto the Lord until God put his hip out of socket making him lame.

Then there was Judah who slept with his daughter-in-law believing her to be a prostitute.  Yet, Jesus is the Lion from the tribe of Judah.  Or Moses was chosen before he was born.  Yet, he killed a man, and ran in fear. He did not even consider circumcising his own sons while in the wilderness.  That is until God called to him from a burning bush.  Even then, he ran from the snake, explained his speech impediment to God, making every excuse.  But after God transformed him through grace, he led the children of Israel.  Indeed, he offered to take their punishment instead to save them.   A transformation only God could perform.

So, now, for a time, Israel is not the forefront of the story.  We, the church, are.  But our time will be soon winding down, and Israel will be the focus once again.  God will complete all that He has planned for Israel, and they will come to bow down before Him in worship. Paul understood this. And he understood God always kept a remnant as His chosen people.

So, if God chooses whom He will, is He unjust?

What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not!  For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.  For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.”  Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.  Romans 9:14-18 NKJV

I have spent this whole week reading from Jonathan Edwards, the strongest defender of Calvinism.  At the same time, I read from Charles Wesley who was a staunch believer in Armenianism. Both with blessed ministries at the same time in history.  What I found is both were very intelligent highly blessed men of God. There were more similarities in their ministries than differences.

Bringing me back to believing that God is beyond anything I can comprehend. In my case, I know He chose me before the earth was created. This despite all the times I would disappoint him.  Chosen before the beginning of time, redeemed, called to be His child. Yet, He has chosen the foolishness of preaching to reach the lost and to do the calling. In my case, it was Dr. M. R. Dehaan’s sermon on the radio that I was listening to.

Now Israel, His chosen Nation He has restored in their land.  Phase 1 of completing all He promised. This after a time period of God’s voice being silent toward them. We the church did not replace them. We are the bride of Christ. They the “unfaithful wife” of the Father.

The truth is that none, no not one, of us deserve salvation.  But He chose to save some.  That does not make me desire to sin more, as some would think.  The truth that He saved me and secures me. Well that only makes me more dedicated to serving Him with all my heart, mind, strength, and soul.

Do We Think Too Little of God? As though He was not the Creator?

You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?” But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?”  Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?  Romans 9:19-21 NKJV

So, do I truly have any right to judge God?  Or to question Him?  He who has been my rock and high tower throughout my life?  Nor does Israel have any right to question all He has done this.  They currently for the most part do not even consider being true to God.  That is all but a remnant.  So, if many are for the moment not called, does that make God any less?  He still will keep all His promises.

God will call out those whom He will, until that day when the church age ends.  Then through the tribulation He will purify Israel, His chosen nation.  They will rejoice. When? At the end of the tribulation. When they behold their King on a white horse to set up His Kingdom on earth. They will recognize He whom they have pierced and bow before Him. King David will be His prince on the throne in Jerusalem during the millennial reign of Christ.   So, as Paul continues

What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,  and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory,  even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? Romans 9:22-24 NKJV

Therefore, we can trust He has a perfect plan. Even if we do not fully understand. I do not fully understand how He holds the universe together. Nor how He hears all our prayers at the same time. But I know He does.

Israel, His Chosen Nation Set Aside Until The Bride of Christ is Called

As He says also in Hosea:

“I will call them My people, who were not My people,

And her beloved, who was not beloved.”

“And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them,

‘You are not My people,’

There they shall be called sons of the living God.”  Romans 9:25-26 NKJV

But He keeps a remnant Among Israel His Chosen Nation

Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel:

“Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea,

The remnant will be saved.

For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness,

Because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth.”

And as Isaiah said before:

“Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed,

We would have become like Sodom,

And we would have been made like Gomorrah.  Romans 9: 27-29 NKJV

All that is Not of Faith benefits Nothing

Israel still thought they could keep the law and did not want to accept a Messiah when He came.  But that is the wonderful mystery of God.  Though alluded to in the Old Testament, no one wanted to see the truth.

What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith;  but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness.  Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone.  As it is written:

“Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense,

And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”  Romans 9:30 NKJV

Conclusion:

Next in Chapter 20 we return to Paul discussing salvation where all that salvation is near to all.  That if we confess with our mouth and believe with our hearts we will be saved.  He says this is through preaching and calls us to be witnesses.  So, yes I believe in predestination and yes I believe that salvation is through accepting Christ as Lord and Savior.  I do not need to know every detail of how both are true. All I need is to trust  my Lord and Savior.  I know He is good, wise, gracious, and just.  That is all I need to really know.

DO YOU KNOW CHRIST AS YOUR SAVIOR AND LORD? He is our only Hope in Life and Death! Our Joy is found in Him.

Study and Pray to Know the Wonder and Mystery of God Almighty

Paul spent a lifetime studying the scriptures before His conversion. Still he was amazed by the Wonder and Mystery of God Almighty in His plan of salvation.  All that he had read was nothing compared to what he came to know after his conversion.  Now it was God opening His eyes.  The Holy Spirit indwelling him and the time he spent studying directly under Jesus.  Direct Communion with God was his next training. There in life’s training with the Holy Spirit’s guidance, the wonder and the mystery of God Almighty was revealed.

But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.   For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.

But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood,  nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him fifteen days. But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the Lord’s brother. Galatians 1:11-19 NKJV

To Know the Wonder and the Mystery of God Almighty

Perhaps, one mystery we are left to wonder about is Free Will versus Sovereignty. That is the arguments about human free will and the Sovereignty of God over all affairs. How do we justify both?  Man in his total depravity does not even seek God.  Yet, some were chosen before creation, predestined.  Still even Jesus spoke of choice and election in the same illustration.

And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.  And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”  John 6: 35-40 NKJV

Caught Between and Seeking Truth

This is a fence on which I have stood for a long time.  When asked about predestination, I say yes.  Because I could never understand how a 5-year-old child understood that day. “I am sinner in need of a Savior.”  Or that Jesus’ death on the cross paid my sins.  But I did.  Nothing short of a miracle could have caused that.  That had to have been that I was chosen through no work of my own.  Then through those long middle years when my choices were at times against His word.  More often than not. There I knew, freedom of choice was leading down paths of shame and guilt.  He did not leave me alone; but I felt the weight of my sin.  I so wanted to do better yet did not even know how.  So, when asked about free will of men and women, I also say yes.

How can it be that both are true?  Yet, they are.  Some would say that Romans 8: 28-30 fully explains it. But I will lay that out for you and you choose.  But choosing wisely comes through study and prayer.

Know the Wonder and Mystery of God Almighty

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. Romans 8:28 -30 NKJV

We know (have discovered, experienced, and recognize as always true).  What do we know? All things (not just the good, nor the righteous works of our hands-even the evil around us. What do all things do? Work together for good to those who love God.  How do I love God except by His revealing Himself to me?  Could I have loved Him had He not first loved me and called me?  Called how?  Called according to His purpose.  What is His purpose?

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.  Ephesians 2:10 NKJV

Does that mean even Lucifer’s fall, becoming Satan was for our good? Certainly, God did not create him evil.  He made Lucifer beautifully and wondrous.  But he was given as all the angels free moral will.  Why?  Did not God know what Lucifer would do?  Yes.  But God did not make him sin.  That was his choice due to having free moral will.  Nothing and no one can truly love, adore, or worship without choice.  That is unless programmed to do so like AI and then that is not true love or worship.

C. S. Lewis wrote in mere Christianity:

God created things which had free will.  That means creatures can go either wrong or right.  Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong; I cannot.  If a thing is free to be good it is also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible.  Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having.  A world of automata-of creatures that worked like machines-would hardly be worth creating.

The happiness which God designs for His higher creatures is the happiness of being freely, voluntarily united to Him and to each in an ecstasy of love delight compared with which the most rapturous love between a man and a woman on this earth is mere milk and water.  And for that they must be free.   C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity, (New York: HarperCollins, 1952), 47-48

The Wonder and Mystery of God Almighty

Without free will, we could never understand nor experience perfect love, joy, hope, or glory.  Instead we would be like robots wandering about the planet with no depth of feeling and no reasoning. Lewis goes on to say:

Of course, God knew what would happen if they used their freedom the wrong way: apparently, He thought it worth the risk.  Perhaps we feel inclined to disagree with Him.  But there is a difficulty about disagreeing with God. He is the source from which all your reasoning power comes: you could not be right, and He wrong any more than a stream can rise higher than its own source.  When you are arguing against Him you are arguing against the very power that makes you able to argue at all: it is like cutting off the branch you are sitting on.

If God thinks this state of war in the universe a price worth paying for free will—that is, for making a live world in which creatures can do real good or harm and something of real importance can happen, instead of a toy world which only moves when He pulls the strings—then we may take it is worth paying. C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity, (New York: HarperCollins, 1952), 47-48

Outside Space and Time:  The Wonder and Mystery of God Almighty

God is omniscient.  He is outside of our space; time continuums.  Therefore, He sees all things in the same instant.  Past, present, and future.  Furthermore, He sees and knows the heart of each person born. Even more clearly than they themselves know their own hearts and minds.  Example:  I may think I am doing something for God’s Glory. Later, I realize it was my own glory that I was seeking.  Wanting others to praise me for what I do.  And never realizing until later what was happening.  Yet, God already knew before He revealed it to my own heart and mind.  But, He loved me anyway.  All that to say.  What if part of His choosing one and not another is He already knows the end.  It is still His Sovereign Grace that allowed Him to choose me anyway.  Yet, did He see that my heart would say, yes?  So, lets look again.

For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren Romans 8:29.

He knew me before the earth was ever created.  And He loved me enough to deal with all the years of other rejections. Just so I might one day be conformed into the image of Jesus.  How miraculous and wonderful and mysterious is that!!!  Not that my heart was any better than anyone else.  I proved that through the tumultuous years.  But He saw that little five-year-old standing in the kitchen, facing the corner, praying to receive Christ while Dr. M. R. Dehaan was preaching about the blood of Christ. The sermon playing on the radio. God saw me before He made the earth. Right then, He thought it was worth it all to love me and save me.  And that is not all.  That is just the beginning.

The Wonder and Mystery of God Almighty—In allowing free choice, without compromising His Sovereignty over all.

Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.  Romans 8:30.

All whom He foreknows are predestined.  These He calls supernaturally by the Holy Spirit.  All whom He calls, He justifies.  Some He bids to come, but these are not the CALLED according to His purpose, if they deny Him.  Each denial leads to a harder heart.  Although nothing is impossible with God. He is not going to destine someone to eternity with Him, who wants nothing to do with Him.

What an amazing God.  I do not say that I understand this mystery completely.  If I could or thought I could then I would think myself God.  And only He is God.  What is even more amazing?  Nothing can separate me from the love of God.  Not even me, myself, or I.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?  Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;

We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,  nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:31-38  NKJV

What Part is Mine to Know the Wonder and Mystery of God

Never forsake studying His word, to know Him even more.  Also, pray unceasingly, acknowledging His constant presence.

I will end today’s lesson with this poem I wrote long ago.

Yes, I Would

As Chosen, Redeemed, Beloved Child of God

Wherever I go, wherever I’ve trod

He’s been there to guide each step of my way

Clutching my hand so I can’t go astray

Through moments despairing and moments of glee

His presence surrounding, covering me

Protecting and healing each wound of my heart

No matter what happened, he ne’er did depart

Whenever I fell in the mud and the mire

As hell bent I ran after selfish desire

So gentle and patient, with eyes filled with love

He’d stretch out His hand from heaven above

How can it be after all that I’d done?

He willingly sacrificed His only Son

To ransom my soul—to give me new life

Despite all the times, I gave Him such strife

If only I could love Him even half as I should

I’d seek and I’d savor His Will, Yes, I would

I never would doubt Him, I’d never be sad

Trusting His word, I’d always be glad

Humbly, I’d bow down to worship my King

Forever and ever His praises to sing

If only I loved Him even half as I should

I’d seek and I’d savor His will, Yes, I would

Oh, precious dear Father in your presence I stand

And quietly listen for your next command

Let the love of your heart and your Glory Divine

Pour forth to the world through these hands of mine

DO YOU KNOW CHRIST AS YOUR SAVIOR AND LORD? He is our only Hope in Life and Death! Our Joy is found in Him.

Therefore if you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord: I urge you today. Go to my page titled How to Be Saved by clicking on this link. There is nothing more important than this; because He is the way, the truth and the life. Therefore, I urge you to seek Him today.

Is Every Thing Actually Certified as Good for Those Who Love God?

Does the text in Romans 8:28 mean that Every Thing that happens in the life of a believer is actually Certified as Good by God Himself?  Everything?  If we stop to remember that God is Sovereign over the affairs of mankind. Then we know He can prevent things from happening.  All that happens in our lives is either within the absolute will or the permissive will of God.  But how can that be?  What about when we sin and walk away from God?  Is that part of His will in our lives?  And we know that all things work together for good.    The Greek word used here is συνεργεῖ (synergei) from which we get the word synergy.  In a synergistic manner by God, all the things are transformed into being for our good.

And what about Paul writing we know.  Do I really know if this concept of everything in my life being good is absolutely true?  But this is very affirmative:  And We Know.  We Know the earth is groaning as he wrote in verse 22.  Or we know not what to pray for. So the Holy Spirit intervenes for us as he wrote just before in verse 26.  This is a definite knowing.  After all did not Paul himself experience this during his entire ministry.  And how true this would become later on.  He longed to go to Rome. But this would be accomplished due to his being imprisoned in Rome years later. We have many examples in scripture. Look at this one from the book of Daniel.  Where King Nebuchadnezzar declared the truth that God is in total control of the events in our lives.

How Could Daniel’s Captivity be Actually Certified as Good?

Remember the story of Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian King? Daniel had been taken captive into Babylonian, made a Eunuch, and placed to serve the King.  There Daniel and his three friends remained faithful to God, regardless of the circumstances or potential consequences to them.  But as God “synergistically” took all the circumstances together, miraculous things continued to occur.  Daniel was raised to a place of honor in the King’s Court after interpreting the King’s dream. The dream laid out the future of the nations.  Then, Daniel had to tell the King of another dream’s interpretation. In that one the King would lose his mind for a time due to his pride.  But this time we see God move in the heart of the King.

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured Him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation: And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and He doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.  Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.  Daniel 4: 34-37 KJV

Not only was Daniel blessed with such magnificent prophecies; but King Nebuchadnezzar was saved.  Daniel lived to see King Cyrus take reign to release the Israelite’s to return to their land.

Every Thing Actually Certified as Good for Those Who Love God But Who are they?

The Greek word used here for love is ἀγαπῶσιν (agapōsin). According to Strong’s Greek Concordance means: To love, wish well to, take pleasure in, long for; denotes the love of reason, esteem.

If we look at Psalm 128 as to whom are the blessed of the Lord.

Blessed is every one who fears the Lord,  Who walks in His ways.  Psalm 128:1  NKJV

What does fear have to do with our loving God?

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death. Proverbs 14:27

Here we are not talking about frightened of Him per say but rather in absolute awe of Him. Remember how Isaiah fell before Him, or the absolute awesome trembling response at Mount Sinai.  There was the response of Habakkuk to hearing God’s voice:

“When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.”  Habakkuk 3:16 KJV

Yet that led to Habakkuk finding peace and joy in God alone as we read the next verse.

“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: “Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.  Habakkuk 3:17 (KJV).

So, Do Those Who Fear God, Love God?  What does that mean?

While I was in Nashville at the Sing Conference, I heard Michael Reeves speaking about the fear of the Lord.  Then this week I heard the most amazing message which I hope all of you will watch:

Please watch on youtube.

He points out the truth that as John looked in to heaven in Revelation 15, he wrote:

And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest. Revelation 15:2-4 KJV

In heaven, there is a fearful trembling, joyous trembling at His majesty and power.  And this will also be the case throughout the millennium.  It will be an overwhelming joyous trembling beyond any joy we could ever have imagined.  When we see Him fully in all His Glory.  We can not even imagine the Awe, Joy and Wonder we shall feel.

Then We will Fully Understand

Every Thing Actually is Certified as Good for Those who Love the Lord.  For those who tremble at His Majesty.  Isaiah wrote of the Millennium

And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.  The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.  And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.  And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. Isaiah 11:1-10 KJV

As God in human flesh, Jesus had full understanding of the joyous, awe-inspiring fear of the Lord.  This is recognizing the awesome power of God and the magnitude of His grace.  Knowing this causes us to see everything happening in our lives differently. We see Every Thing as a glorious picture of such magnificent beauty we fall before His Holiness.  Then we truly realize the magnitude of grace required of God to have chosen me to be His child.  Betrothed to His Son.  How could that be!  And then knowing His Sovereign Power, His extraordinary Love, and His Grace. How could I question what He does in my life?

A Fearful Joy confirming Every Thing Actually Certified as Good

For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
He also is to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
But the Lord made the heavens.
27 Splendor and majesty are before Him,
Strength and joy are in His place.
28 Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples,
Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
29 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come before Him;
Worship the Lord in holy attire.
30 Tremble before Him, all the earth;
Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved.
31 Let the heavens be joyful, and the earth rejoice;
And let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”
32 Let the sea roar, and everything it contains;
Let the field rejoice, and everything that is in it.
33 Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy in the presence of the Lord;
For He is coming to judge the earth.
34 Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For His faithfulness is everlasting.
35 Then say, “Save us, God of our salvation,
And gather us and save us from the nations,
To give thanks to Your holy name,
And glory in Your praise.”
36 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
From everlasting to everlasting! I Chronicles 16:25-36 NASB

Finally, the earth will be released! All that has been moaning, waiting for this moment of full freedom from the futility and sin. So, this is such an awesome trembling of a joy never so experienced by us. Is that not wondrous to imagine!!

Furthermore, who are those who Love God?

to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 c

It is His purpose that Called us. We, who could not have loved Him, had He not loved us first.

Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,  2 Timothy 1:8-9 KJV

What is He working to Accomplish in Us?

If indeed because of all of this. I accept that EVERY Thing in my life is Certified for my Good by God. But what is He doing in my life?

For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. Romans 8:29-30 KJV

  1. He is conforming me to the image of His Son
  1. He is about the work of making me Glorious

How?

      1.  He predestined me before the creation of the world

       2.  He called me

        3.  He justified me

         4.  Therefore, He also glorified me (counted as complete though still in the process).

This all by the work of the Holy Spirit

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.  But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as [b]by the Spirit of the Lord.  2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NKJV

And What About My Sin? Is it Certified as Good?

My sin comes from my volition when I take my mind off of Him and focus on my desires. Yet can God who is Sovereign ultimately use that to help me transform? Of course He can! But does that sometimes require my own broken heart? Certainly. But out of the brokenness, He changes my focus back to Him. There I find His amazing joy and presence once again. That makes me less likely to desire to stray from Him. So, yes, even that is certified as good in my life. Not that it is good itself. Yet, God will use my sin to transform me to not desire to sin. Whatever it takes, He will use it to bring about good. Even though, He did not ordain my sin.

Love Divine, God Adopted Me Through Jesus Christ to be His Chosen Child

In our modern world, we often hear those who say, “All we are Children of God.” But is that what the Word of God says?  Certainly, we are created in the “image of God.”  But does that mean we are all God-like?  I do not have to look any further than my own heart to know that is not true.  So, how was I created in His image?  He gave me the ability to reason, a discerning conscience, a heart filled with emotions, and a triune being.  I was created with a body, soul, and spirit.  Yet, because of sin, my spirit was one in search of a connection plug.  That was until I was born of the Spirit and my spirit came alive.  Additionally, having accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, I was adopted by Grace into the family of God.  Only then could I truly be called a Child of God.

Adopted into the family of God as a joint heir with Jesus Christ.  Think about that! Furthermore, before I accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, my flesh had been bound like a slave to sin.  Once saved, the Holy Spirit entered me.  Even though it was He who called me, wooed me, and then sealed me by the Blood of Christ for eternity.  He also resides within me to transform me into the image of Christ.  No fear of condemnation, wrath, nor abandonment.  Adopted, sealed for eternity as His Chosen Child.  Beloved, protected, and guided every moment of every day.  I can call Him the most intimate name of “Abba” which is like My Dearly beloved Daddy.  What an amazing position to have! And not because I deserved it. I was the child least likely to be chosen.  Yet, chosen all the same.

What Does Being Adopted Have to Do with Suffering?

Notice the last sentence of verse 17 “heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”  Could the fullness of the Glory that is Christ shine so brightly were it not for His suffering on the cross?  Could anyone see His absolute magnificence and brilliant Glory otherwise. Were it not for our understanding the depths of His suffering to purchase our salvation?  What if our standing for Christ or our process of sanctification leads to suffering?  Why would we, so indebted to Him, not be willing to suffer for Him as He had for us?  Or what if our suffering is for the “good of the kingdom”?  What do I mean?  Sometimes as others watch our faith during moments of suffering, they come to want to know Our Secret, Our Jesus.

Brother Lawrence was a Monk who could not find rest. That is until he, learned how to practice the presence of Jesus in his life.  This he did when all alone as the cook in the monastery. He began to recognize the presence of Jesus in the most mundane areas of his life.  Washing dishes, peeling potatoes and so on. Therein, he found joy.   Brother Lawrence wrote in “The Practice of the Presence of Jesus”  page 9

AS for the miseries and sins I heard of daily in the world I was so far from wondering at them, that , on the contrary, I was surprised there were not much more, considering the malice sinners were capable of.  For my part I prayed for them, but knowing that God could remedy the mischiefs they did, when He pleased: I gave myself no farther trouble.    Brother Lawrence

 Concerning This notation:

Joni Eareckson Tada added in her newest book, “The Practice of the Presence of Jesus page 23

Never once was Jesus casual about human sin.  He always faced such darkness head-on, knowing ultimately that sin would be the death of him.  And finally, when the Man of Sorrows collapsed in the Garden of Gethsemane, he groaned, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death….My Father, if it be possible, may this cup be taken from me” (Matthew 26:38-39)

This cup of suffering was so dreadful it was enough to make Jesus recoil in horror: ‘Being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and the sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground (Luke 22:44). As the Savior was shaken to the core, a foul odor must have wafted—Not around Jesus nose but around His heart.  Even then, hours before his crucifixion, human wickedness was beginning to crawl upon his spotless being.  In that garden, the Apple of the Father’s eye was beginning to turn brown with the rot of our wickedness.  (Not His wickedness for even then He surrendered fully to the Father’s will.  No glimpse or trace of sin within Him.  But a metaphor to describe the awful weight of sin as seen by God. And the awfulness of sin’s wretchedness toward God).  Jesus was about to drown in raw, liquid sin (willing to take my place) as all of God’s stored up rage against humankind exploded in a single direction—at Him on the hill of calvary. True God remedied our mischief, but, oh at such a cost! So I practice the presence of Jesus every time I take sin seriously and refuse to sweep small sins under the carpet of my conscience.  God forbid that I should ever call an offense against God tiny when it has caused my Savior unimaginable pain.  May I never minimize the sin that made him suffer.

My prayer as well.  May I never minimize any sin or blemish of sin in my own heart, mind, or body.  For it is what nailed Him to that cross.  His love for me held Him there while all the wrath of God against sin was poured out upon Him.

As Adopted Child:

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. Romans 8:12 (NKJV)

What is the best way to honor God for all He has done for us?  To live a life surrendered to His will. Why? To live in such a manner as to point others to see His Glory and Grace.  In part, that is also living a life without grumbling.  As John Piper often says, “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.”  That is regardless of the circumstances surrounding us. If I truly believe He rewards those who diligently seek Him. And I believe, all things work together for my good. He only gives good gifts to His children. Then, why would I not have a steadfast, abiding joy during the bad seasons of my life.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,  just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,  having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,  that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him. In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,  that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.  Ephesians 1: 3-12 (NKJV

Knowing all this: how can we adopted children not say with Paul

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.  Romans 8: 18 NKJV

But He goes on to explain:

For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.  For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Romans 8:19-22 NKJV

We were created to rule and reign over all the earth.  Providing for the animal kingdom.  Taking care of our world, so beautifully made by God. A task we have failed miserably at.   With the fall of Adam and Eve, everything changed.  Sin entered the world and infected all of creation.  Humankind is the species most feared by the animal kingdom and rightly so.  Just look around you at the dishevel humanity has made at caring for the planet earth and the animal kingdom.  Yet, the earth is awaiting eagerly for the revealing of the new earth without sin.  Yes, every part of the earth was subjected to futility.  But they are also subjected to the hope that all creation will be delivered from this bondage of corruption.  The earth also will be brought into glorious liberty from the bonds of sin.

Furthermore, we the adopted children of God.

Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.  For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.  Romans 8:23-25 NKJV

We too groan.  How often while looking at my own failures do I long for that day. A day when finally my heart will fully look like Jesus.  The longer I walk in His Loving Pathway, I long more for His presence. Living every moment in his presence, I find I long to honor Him in all that I do and say.  Unfortunately, that is not always the case.  But thanks to His Mercy, He always gives me the opportunity to fix what I have wronged.  Or He takes what I have done. Then mixed with my repentant heart of love, He makes it into something so beautiful despite my bumbling it.

What Do You Desire Most?

“God is the highest good of the reasonable creature. The enjoyment of him is our proper; and is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Better than fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of any, or all earthly friends. These are but shadows; but the enjoyment of God is the substance. These are but scattered beams; but God is the sun. These are but streams; but God is the fountain. These are but drops, but God is the ocean.” ― Jonathan Edwards, The Works of Jonathan Edwards, Vol. 17: Sermons and Discourses, 1730-1733

As we journey through this land, as His adopted child, my focus must be on Him.  He is the Glorious part of heaven.  His presence is more than anything else.  Yes, I long to be in His presence for all eternity.  He is the joy of heaven. Therefore, here on this earth awaiting the full adoption or redemption of the body; I have hope. Having already been adopted but awaiting my final trip home I eagerly await.  He must be the one whom I desire most.  If not, why would I ever desire to spend an eternity in His presence?  Heaven is not just the golden streets, magnificent beauty, and peace.  It is all that only because He is there.  So if I desire other pleasures more than His presence here, do I desire Him more than everything else? If not. How will I ever enjoy Him for all eternity as the greatest joy?

Besides all that As an Adopted Child, I have a mediator guiding me

So, even if I bumble, pray for all the wrong things, head down the road the wrong way.  The Holy Spirit, knowing the will of God prays for me.  He knows precisely what to pray for so I might find joy in God Alone.   There is no hope for full joy apart from the presence of Jesus and God in our life.  He is like my own personal tutor for everything in this life.  After all, I am a princess.  Should I not have my own personal tutor teaching me everything and every courtesy of this life?

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.  Romans 8:26-27 NKJV

Trust God, even when the answer was not the one you thought you wanted.  I cannot tell you how many times, He saved me from myself.  Sometimes we must say thank you for appeared to be unanswered prayers.

Finally,

TO GOD-MY LOVE, MY HOPE, MY JOY

My life-so filled with hopes and dreams

Lay shattered at Your feet

So many tears, so many pains

I laid before Your seat

Can I look upon Your face of love

And question what You’ve done?

For You have been my only hope

My only morning sun

You’ve seen my heart when crushed with pain

Your hands have held it tight

When I have been so weak, so frail

You’ve shown Your strength, Your might

You’ve held me close within Your arms

When darkness filled my night

And when I could not see my way

Your eyes, they gave me sight

I lay my life within Your hands

That You may heal my soul

And keep my eyes upon You Lord

That I may reach Your goal

Shine forth Your grace, Your mercy Lord

And let me be Your light

That all may see Your eyes of love

The blind, they might have sight

Let not the sorrows, nor the pains

Bring bitterness within

And give me strength to walk this path

Protect my heart from sin

I lay my heart, my soul, my dreams

Before Your throne of love

I lift my eyes to You, My God

And seek Your will above

You are the only one I need

To fill my heart with glee

It is Your face, my one true love

Tis all I need to see

So lift me up and hold me close

Reveal Your love divine

That through the holes within my heart

A world might see You shine

And if the sorrows of my past

Can touch a wayward one

I thank you Lord for each dark path

That lead them to Your son

I praise You now from mountains high

For each dark path I’ve trod

Twas there I found Your heart, Your love

Twas there I found You God

What great and wondrous joy I know

Because You are my king

And though the path I cannot see

My heart will trust and sing

A song of praise unto You Lord

Who knows what’s best for me

You’ll hold my hand and lead me on

In darkness, I can see

Your love, Your help, Your guiding hand

Is all I’ll ever need

So hold me close unto Your path

For this is all I plead

I’ll skip with joy along this path

Though darkness may surround

Because I know You hold my hand

My feet will ne’er touch ground

I cannot fall outside Your love

I cannot lose my way

I’ll hold my broken dreams once more

And see them real, one day

A song of praise unto You Lord

Who knows what’s best for me

You’ll hold my hand and lead me on

In darkness, I can see

Your love, Your help, Your guiding hand

Is all I’ll ever need

So hold me close unto Your path

For this is all I plead
