Clothed by His Robe of Righteousness

Colossians  3 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God…17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him….23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism (spiritual baptism) into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Isaiah 61:  10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

Where can we find the power over sin’s lies and devastating power to destroy, when it is whispering sweetly in our ears to chase after the self centered desires?  Or when in fear we want to lie to protect ourselves?  After all, grace has covered it all; what does it matter just this once?  She/he wronged me; don’t I have the right for righteous anger and revenge?  It is an addiction, I cannot help myself–God will understand because he loves me.  Why didn’t God just stop me from saying those hateful words?  He knew what I was going to do before I did it?  Maybe if no one else knows, it is ok?  Well, the Government wastes the money on evil things; why not cheat on my taxes?  You are a worthless failure anyway, why does it matter?  On and on the lies go.  When Christ died on the cross; he paid the penalty for my sin.  When He arose from the grave, He defeated death and sin.  I, do not have the power on my own to conquer sin; but as I focus upon Him, memorizes His words of truth, cling to His promises of future grace for the next minute of my life—He provides the power.  I am helpless to overcome sin; except through His power.  I need to like David, write God’s words on my heart, that I might not sin against Him.  The only offensive weapon against Satan is the "the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God"  So, my dear friends, never forsake the Bible that is sitting there on the shelf.  Within these love letters left to you by your creator, you will find strength, hope, abounding joy and the power to overcome sin’s devastating power in your life–one sin at a time, one step at a time by faith in His word; until one day you will stand beside Christ and as a mirror reflecting and magnifying the light, you will reflect and magnify His Glory throughout the heavens.
